New Thrill Rides at Hollywood Studios

Just another reason to drive to the parks. My favorite rumor was that the haunted mansion was being torn down to make way for a Nightmare before Christmas ride. I wonder if these guys even believe their own hype. This was from a WL-MK boat captain.

I wonder if these guys even believe their own hype.
Tsk, tsk, tsk. Based on this, I should never have even tried. This is an extremely depressing thread. I thought I had given good information, thought I had helped people, I thought I had entertained and enlightened people and improved their time at Disney World, the definition of being a Cast Member... and I am sure with the number of members on this board that I drove someone from here. Sorry that I was obviously lying to you. Sorry I ever tried to help. I guess I should just have done what they're trying to get bus drivers to do now... just shut the **** up and drive.

Please, if you ever, ever go on Safari, request to NOT get on my truck. I don't want to try to serve people that are going to assume I am a liar. Actually, feel free to get on my truck. But let me know, so I don't actually say anything. You're obviously not worth my effort. As Walt once said, (paraphrased) it's the people that make this whole place magic. I've worked hard to be one of those, I sacrificed a lot to be at Disney World and a Cast Member... I am able to be so much more than a front-line Cast Member, but I choose to make Magic. So from that position, I say to those of you who would lump an entire job description together the way you all have (and I mean all because not one person here but Cranbiz and I have disagreed, and that out of pride of the jobs we both do), why bother coming to Disney World? You should find somewhere else that you don't think everyone there is an idiot that is lying to you.

If there's this number of people (of those that claim to love Disney) that think I am an idiot because I am a Cast Member, then maybe I have made a mistake in my decision to move all the way across the country, give up some good things I had, to come to Disney World to serve people like you.

Fortunately, there are enough people that come to Disney World that enjoy what I do that I know you are not the majority, the ones sitting there on my bus/truck thinking about what a liar I am. I know that from the number of times on buses I received thunderous applause and now on my safari truck. It's a good thing most people don't agree with you, that because I am a Cast Member I must be an idiot.

Now, back to the other board, back to the shadows. You won't see me again here, not in this kind of company. I have better things to do with my life than listen to a bunch of people who will call me a liar at the drop of a hat.

Somebody woke up on the wrong side of the safari vehicle.

No, I woke up feeling just fine. I will be just fine, but... never mind. I said it all. Anything now would be repeating myself. Now, to live by what I said and honor my word, as I am not a liar.

You must admit that there are drivers out there that throw out a lot of nonsense

MonorailGuy, you are taking it too seriously.

We've all heard "stories" from some of the bus drivers that were obviously far fetched, already proven false, or sounded like they came right from the DISboards. This does not mean ALL drivers - but enough of them that people should at least not take what is said like it came right from Iger's mouth.

I'm not going to claim that all the bus drivers are mean jerks either, just because one yelled at me for asking where it was going (he gruffly told me to "read the sign" - which said Downtown Disney - which is where we were). But we all know that some of those guys need some attitude training too.

Besides, I thought Disney outsourced all the drivers to Mears? Or was that just the ME buses?

...and back on topic...

I think the Studios might be a park ripe for a major expansion, as opposed to a fifth gate. I haven't quite figured out how yet, but if they relocated the entrance road to Buena Vista or Victory Way, they could take the parking lot and expand out in a semicircle.

It just seems to be the smallest park to me, yet the theme is ideal for a lot more things.

Had no idea you were the only bus driver. Bye.

No, he's not the only bus driver. I am one of several drivers that try to help out here. Lately, I have felt that my assistance here on the DIS Boards is not appreciated either.

I have been called a liar on other threads. I don't lie to guests, I don't lie here either. I have always given the best information that I have, based on actual operations. To be told that I don't know what I'm talking about is absurd. To be called a liar and then lumped together with all others is why I too, have been much less visable here. It's not worth it.

I know monorail guy personally. He is a stand up guy who has always put the guest experience first.

As I said before, your loss.

And no, Disney Transport bus drivers are NOT Mears employees.

Here here! I also happen to know monorail guy personally, and second that. He's a great guy, and I can most certainly assure you I have never seen him less than cheerful. I can't tell you how many times while we were in MK during a six hour span when he was NOT on duty in any capacity that we stopped what we were doing because he saw a guest confused, or upset, or in one case quite ill, and he helped. Did he have to? No. But he did anyways.

It's rather like here. He doesn't have to help, but he chooses to. For him to feel un appreciated says alot; he is not a person who gives up easily or who is easily annoyed.

As Cranbiz said, your loss.

Sounds like a few CMs need to be introduced to the concept of Hyperbole. I would have said all but it seems they keep missing the boat on that one.

Well this one probably comes from DL since each year they do a Nightmare Before Xmas overlay to the haunted mansion for the holidays.

It's not as good at the original HM but it is fun to experiance once.

This is my first post in this thread.

Nobody wrote, "MonorailGuy and cranbiz are liars." Perhaps some of the wording about WDW bus drivers was too all-inclusive, but the point is that many of us have heard misinformation from drivers over the years.

I appreciate that drivers try to make the ride more interesting by sharing information that guests may not know. However, when drivers present "news" that someone has fabricated, it makes me wonder if those drivers are gullible or if they made it up themselves.

The WDW bus drivers who spread misinformation have hurt the credibility of WDW bus drivers in general.

And I'm not saying that MonorailGuy and cranbiz are guilty of this.

:thumbsup2

There are too many guests these days that do not realize how much of the magic is generated by the CM's themselves. Does incorrect info sometimes get passed along? Sure. But it is not deliberate and many times comes from something they were told by management. There are many times that plans are talked about, info starts circulating and then those plans are tossed. Does that mean someone was lying because they shared information that they believed to be true?

Sorry if CM's seem oversensitive but it is very disheartening to work so hard to make everyone's experience with Disney magical only to be "metaphorically" spit on by ugly hyperbole. (Gee - yeah. I guess we do understand the concept of hyperbole.)

No its still sounds as if you don't understand it. Try again. Maybe don't get so wrapped up in thinking that you are the magic giver by telling guest that Fire Mountian really is being built this year or that the monorail is going to be extended to all four parks next year and just drive the bus. You'd be surprised how many people are more happy with a job done right then some 6th hand story that is never going to happen.

I haven't read every post in this thread, but I did read MonorailGuy's post, and a few that followed it. I really don't understand what the fuss is about. How many times are we handed down faulty information and rumors about the parks, or anything else for that matter? Why does it seem that people are taking offense to this? I personally applaud the cast members. I couldn't do it, but I am thankful that they can. It really is the people that makes this place wonderful. Most CMs go above and beyond, and you know their pay does not truly reflect the heart and effort they put into their jobs.

Now, I've gotten sidetracked slightly. I miss the days when the bus drivers told jokes and entertained guests during the rides to and from the parks. I remember as a child, one of the things I most looked forward to after a long day in the park was the bus ride back to our room, where the driver would joke with us and gives us light hearted commentary. It was like having on last little dose of Disney magic to end the day. Now, in the all the trips I've made in the past 3 years, I can remember only one bus driver doing this, out of countless bus rides.

Again, side tracked (should start a thread about how I miss bus driver interaction). The point I really wanted to make is that I generally take everything with a grain of salt. If a bus driver or CM tells me something is about to be built at WDW, or if Bob Iger himself says it, my reaction would be the same. That's great, I'll be looking forward to it... but I'll believe it when I see it. Too often Disney's grand plans get swept under the rug for any number of reasons, I can't get myself bent out of shape every time a piece of information didn't pan out to be correct. I also can't expect everyone to have the same sources, information, or die hard love and dedication to Disney that I do.

So, in short, bad information gets passed around. Always has, always will. I guess the lesson learned would be to take everything with a grain of salt and come to our own conclusions ourselves.

I just want to interject.... last year was our first time to WDW in 30 years and our very first experience with the buses.

Since we rode scooters, we were the first to board and the last to leave and had the most direct contact with the drivers. Almost all of them were very helpful, and patient with us (My mother had problems parking hers). I didn't have any of them tell us any tall tales nor did I feel any of them lied to us. We did however have a driver that was misinformed!
We were going to be dining at Cap'n Jacks at Downtown Disney... this was on the night we arrived and was our first bus trip. We didn't even have our scooters yet, but had borrowed a wheelchair from the hotel for my Mom. The driver knowing we were new to this asked where we were going since there are 2 stops for DD. When we told him he said it at the Pleasure Island stop. I didn't dispute it, because I wasn't sure exactly where it was. But when he let us off, something didn't feel right. He told us to go left to the end of the fence and it would be just around the corner. When we got to the fence there was a DD map posted and I went to look at it... sure enough, Cap'n Jacks was way on the other side!! Sooo... I turned right, to see if we could get to the other side.... Next thing I know, the bus driver is chasing us down... telling us we were going the wrong way. I truly believe he was trying to help, but was sending us in the wrong direction on accident. To appease him, we went the way he told us... lo and behold no Cap'n Jacks to be seen. I did see Planet Hollywood however.... maybe he thought we were going there... I spot the information booth and get directions to where we needed to be.. For the next 30 mins, I pushed my Mother up and down hills, through seas of crowds that did not want to part and had the aching muscles to prove it. We were late for our ADR and was afraid they would give it away! (We were at the info booth at the time we should have been there)
But it all turned out alright in the end!

I am a new CP at the Studios and I've heard rumors about star tours and the new construction. They wouldn't tell us about the new construction on our property tour but said its opening up when we're here...I'm way excited. I'm also super psyched about toy story mania- I might audition to be on the opening team.

whether it's true or not.... There DEFINITELY needs to be something to draw people out of that tiny pan handle that has the parks two biggest attractions! It's crazy that those two are that close to each other in that small space.

Geez, why is everyone tossing around the words 'liars' and 'bus drivers' in the same sentence?

Some of those so called 'lies' were projects in the works. At one time they were supposed to run the monorails through the Swan and Dolphin, then they found out how much it was going to cost- so says every single monorail pilot I have ever asked- and I ask every single time I ride in the cab which is usually at least once per trip (I'm patient) So I suppose all monorail pilots are liars too then???

Sometimes when you hear rumors they don't turn out because the Company pulls the plug.

Once, a bus driver told me that the big brown mounds that were being painted in the middle of the Lake Buena Vista area were going to be the Rocky Mountains for something called the Canada Pavilion at this new park called EPCOT.

Oh yeah, then it came true!!!

Show the bus drivers some love. They have a job that I guarantee that most of us could not do on a daily basis- put up with WDW guests like us!!!

Laren

Yes that is one of the biggest myths ever produced by Disney CM's its nice to see they are still telling that one to us yokalls. BTW I'm pretty sure that little tall tale was put to rest by the Hotel designer himself.
