New test required for free dining

Why is it whenever a poster starts a thread that is supposed to be lighthearted someone always has to get their panties in a wad and take offense?

LIGHTEN UP PEOPLE!

Um, that _is_ the correct way to spell sandwich... :confused3

-Astrid

I don't believe this poster was implying that sandwich was misspelled. I believe she was playing with the words= "sand" is in the desert along with snakes and cacti...

I was just waiting for it...;)

No one poster is being singled out. We are having fun with the common misspellings we see here all the time. I have caught myself misspelling things here several times over the years. It's good to be able to laugh at YOURSELF, too!

I see it as being rather mean-spirited. It's a message board post not a college term paper. Some of the most intelligent people that I know cannot spell properly. There are others who do not care to take the time to spell-check their posts because they do not consider it to be very important. And maybe (just maybe) some of us are pulling your chain when we use the wrong spelling of a word because we know how much more superior it makes some of you feel.

*raises glass of PEPSI* Kungaloosh!!

You drink PEPSI and live in Atlanta (home of COKE)??? Isn't that blasphemy?? :rotfl:

By the way, I will gladly join you in a Pepsi. I can't stand Coke. :thumbsup2

Again, nobody is criticizing or correcting any specific person - except, again, the posters who are offended at the general conversation in this thread.

But when you think about it, the issue here isn't simply misspelling. It also appears to be a problem with the basic rules of pronunciation - long vowels vs. short vowels, single consonants vs. double consonants, accenting the correct syllable, etc. I mean, if anyone truly WANTS to get into a discussion about grammar, pronunciation, and spelling :teeth:.

But that wasn't the OP's intent!!!!!!!! She or he simply made a general observation, identifying nobody in particular.

sure good idea...and you cant get into epcot if you say the surface of spaceship earth is covered in tiny cubes. funny i thought spelling and shape lessons were free in this country but i guess not. :confused3

:rotfl2:

I have to say when I first subscribed to this theird I was looking for the joke. However I relized that it is not a joke at all

Hey Everyone!

OP here.

Just some background here...I've lurked on these boards for a few years and don't post much until it gets time for my yearly trip to the World. I then get so excited I make a few funny posts such as this one. (I also made one about wanting a sword at Cinderella's lunch even though I'm a 39 year old guy). The post was just supposed to be funny. For the 99 percent of you who took it that way...hooray!!!!!
For the other 1 percent, Disney Casting has 6 of the 7 dwarf roles filled....guess which role you got.
;)

I always find it amusing to see how some people think it proper etiquette to correct someone else's spelling or pronunciation. I have pet peeves, like It irks me when I see people who do not color coordinate or even make an effort. Or when I see someone wearing a color that looks horrible on them. But I know it would be inconsiderate of myself and a sign of bad manners for me to take it upon myself to stop said person and say you know that color looks horrible on you or your wearing it all wrong. Why is it then that some people feel it is their right to try to correct someone else for a misspelled or pronounced word? In my opinion its a sense of uprightness or or a sense of over-importance of ones self. Personally unless someone asks you specifically if they've spelled something correctly or unless you happen to be said persons teacher its rude to correct them and really makes you look bad in my opinion.

Just like the sense of uprightness or over-importance involved in chastising someone for what their pet peeve is?

If you see someone and think that color looks horrible then you are doing the same thing posters on this thread are. You are making a judgement of someone else. Whether you tell the person or not, you have made the judgement.

I don't think this applies. Nobody is correcting anybody (well, until maybe this quoted post :confused3?). The OP and a subsequent poster are simply making general observations about two too-common misspellings. No specific person is being cited or corrected.

No your right. I just always see it on the boards. I know I misspell all the time also. I didn't mean to jump in and ruin the fun.

I don't discount that we all make judgments. But there is a huge difference between forming an opinion and correcting people. Again I didn't post what I posted to, as someone else said "get all your panties in a bunch" it was an observation. That I see very often on the boards is all.

But the OP didn't correct anyone. He's not over on the Restaurants board telling anybody they're spelling things wrong - using the wrong words, really. He's not even doing that on this board, where some people do ask questions about the dining plans. He's just being amusing. I think he's funny... and I do, by the way, think he should be given a sword on request at CRT. Ah, heck. Once this response posts, I'm going to see what other threads he's started in anticipation of his upcoming trips!

This is the truth. My hubby has a genius IQ can't spell at all. I mean my 9 year old spells better than he does.

My mom average IQ, that woman could spell anything, it just came natural to her.

Now for me, I can spell fairly well, I just type to fast for my own good, and depending on what kind of mood I am in, I correct and sometimes I feel that it isn't worth the effort on here.

HOWEVER, I am for anything that cuts down on how busy some of the restaurants are.

LMAO!!!!

I guess then there should also be a test required before asking for advice on the DIS.

It's advice! Not advise!!! Ugh. That one irks me, too. :)

Love this post. Great humor. :) I needed a laugh today, OP, and I can tell you're just in a playful and laughing mood.
