New survey .. proposal .. Tiered Ticket Prices

I dont know the truth of it but the CM I spoke to a few days ago about this told me Disney is already aware of it and the loophole will be closed, but there was no ETA and she said some things take a while.

That's interesting. It must be a complicated fix if it is taking so long. I remember another loophole that got fixed very quickly once it went public.

Hints of this came out with the introduction of the dreaded FP+ In 2012. All part of the plan...

Theme Park Pricing: Will dynamic airline-style pricing take hold in theme parks? - tribunedigital-orlandosentinel

Thank you for quoting that. I knew it had been kicked around on one of those epic threads a few years back.

Are you still planning a DLR trip? Or have you gone already?

I leave next week! Can't wait. Got that one under control. But...

I will return to WDW in July with extended family. Dealing with the FP+ has been a nightmare.

I can see how dynamic pricing would be easy for regular tickets. Go online, pick your days, pay your tickets, choose your FP+. Locked in can't change your mind. Devious really. I can see the pricing tiers work like DVC POINTS. it could have some effect on moving crowds around. Maybe even to different parks on a given day.

That all assumes they can get the Software right. That could take a decade!

Again, this is kinda saying that they get rid of park hoppers. They're not going to do that anytime soon one would think.

The parties don't affect the other parks, though. Are those parks unusually lower in demand on party days?

The parties absolutely do affect attendance at the other parks. People gravitate to the MK on non-party days...which means the other parks are less crowded. People stay away from MK on party days...which makes the other parks busier those days. And on party days, people who don't want to end their day before 7:00 will hop someplace else. During MNSSHP time, it's Epcot, which is always open until at least 9:00 and conveniently has F&W going on during the Halloween parties. During MVMCP time, it's DHS, which is always open later for the Osborne Lights, which conveniently falls during MVMCP time.

I noticed that the article mentioned that the industry feels that dynamic pricing could be acceptable to the public as long as they perceive the price to be fair. That notion of "fair" is something that the companies have to be careful with.

I don't know, you could just pay the highest park fee. Right now the MK price is different than others. Maybe the hopper fee would take care of discrepancies.

Annual Passes are trickier. I don't know how that would work. Unless there are tiered annual passes for different times of the year. Then if you go on a higher tier day, you pay an additional fee.

Maybe the annual pass would become a discount card getting tiered price breaks.

Or maybe like Tables in Wonderland. Buy the Pass for $300.00 and get 50% off as many daytime admissions as you want!

With that new slick MagicBand, you can bounce in and out of the parks as much as you want, but each time you scan your badge a charge hits your credit card. You won't care it's Disney World.

It would be different but people will get used to it. The crowds accept every other nonsense idea that comes at them. Me included.

If there are 'bargain' days, it could be highly effective. It works for DVC. Those low point rooms are often the first ones taken.

Allow me to rephrase.
Parties don't affect operating hours at other parks on party days.
(This was in the context of claims that "party days should be bronze days because the hours are shorter.")

I'll say this again since it last appeared many pages ago. Survey questions are just gauging what people think. It doesn't tell us anything about what they're actually planning to do.

It's hard for me to put the words "bargain" and "Disney" in the same sentence but who knows? Maybe they could do things like offer some kind of special deal for DHS if they get an indication that attendance might be low.

Bargain in quotes. :) it would have to be based on historical data, because 60 days or 30 days in advance would not be long enough to set prices. Egad! Unless it was truly like airline tickets. The longer you wait, the higher the price based on attendance. Getting everybody logged in and picking parks far in advance lends itself to this type of shenanigans.

People would be logging in at the 60 day mark AND staying on site to get the 60 day Mark to guarantee the lowest price. More pressure to commit.

Thats not a very good way to look at it. People can't just sit around and do nothing and wait for problems to happen. You have a voice and can express your dislike of this proposal before it happens. It takes 2 minutes to send an email.
No, people are interpreting questions and applying meanings to those questions based on wild speculation. I don't waste time or energy on problems that do not exist. Calling Disney to complain about something like this is presumptive. If/when Disney actually suggests something that is even close to some of the wild speculation in this thread, I will gladly express my opinion. Until then they deserve the benefit of my doubt in this matter.

Classic closing of the barn door after the bull is out.

If/when Disney "suggests" something like this is coming...then something like this is coming, whether folks complain about it or not (see: FP+).

After 20+ years of visiting exclusively WDW and our last visit in Dec. For 9-13 days every other year, I've finally decided I'm going to consider vacationing elsewhere. Everyone has their breaking point, and after the last visit, I felt so disenchanted w/ the "money-grab" vibe, that I came home and within a few month decided to sell our DVC. Yes, there has always been "money-grab" and I for one do NOT begrudge a business profits in the least. I own a small business, and I'm all for healthy businesses. But when the profits come at a cost of the "magic" and we pay more for less and less, I just finally reached my limit. We'll do 4 days at DLR for the first time next year and then who knows. I've come to terms w/ my feeling less and less magic at Disney, and I'll still visit, but not much anymore. The day I really realized this I was in tears. It's always been my "happy place" so when you lose something that was so dear to you, you really feel like it's a death of sorts. A death of a loved friend.

KittyAB, not all AP people got or will get the survey. I'm one until Sept. this year and I haven't.

Even more reason to just let it go if you feel this way.

I will never understand hand wringing over stuff like this.

This would explain the news article about the new surge pricing. I am selling my DVC if this happens, without question.
