New Summer Meal Offer!

You can make adrs for a qs restaurant, in case you weren't aware. Be our guest is qs for breakfast and lunch and from what I understand the only way you can get in is with an adr.
BoG is the only CS that takes ADR's. This was done because people were lining up for hours to get in and mistreating the CM's when they either had to wait or couldn't get in at all.

You can make ADR's for one QS restaurant. One. I've been visiting Disney twice a year for 10 years, but thanks.

I haven't found the link for it yet. Are you saying all it is for is 1 quick service meal a day, nothing else?

Yes- that's it. underwhelming to most people IMHO. But I guess it makes some folks happy so there you have it!

I think this is a way for Disney to find out just how little they can offer and still get package bookings. It could also be the beginning of the end of FD. A way of weaning people off of it.

I certainly would not book a package just to get 1 meal/day. I can get a better discount from Orbitz. I currently have a great deal through Orbitz. I'm paying $103/night for a value room in March. Rack rate is $163/$197 per night.
You can get a value room for around 68-80 per night with a discount code.....depending on timing and seasons- last year(twice) and this upcoming spring I've done that- saved far more than a qs cheeseburger would cost me.(I don't value the 'free meal at 17.00, my oop cost at qs is approx. $8) that said, some people do seem to prefer a 'bonus' tossed in,it may work better for certain times of year, etc. It's just....underwhelming.

Definitely works differently for different folks. For us, an AP rate of ~$100/night at Pop Century outweighs this discount of paying more per room but getting a free QS meal. We don't eat a lot of QS, we prefer Table Service and the occasional QS.

OTOH, I was talking to a woman in one of the Disney planning FB groups. She and her husband have 3 young kids - 2 Disney kid aged and 1 under 3. So they'd get 4 meals per day. For them, they are REALLY on a budget so they are trying to save in many aspects. They're considering the pros and cons - Pro is that they would get a "Free" (Although they'd be paying a little more for the room) meal each day, with the ability to "not worry" about the cost, enjoy a soda and dessert, which they might not otherwise do. But on the other hand, what if you're not a soda drinker and you don't need 4 QS desserts for the 4 people in your room!?

Different strokes for different folks!!

Well, if you're really looking to stretch a budget... You can turn those sodas and desserts into extra snack items, which in some QS places can be things like an order of fries or a cup of soup or a side salad. That means you could easily split meals! For example, off the top, go to Flame Tree Barbecue and get the half-rack of ribs. Instead of dessert, get a side of fries. Instead of a drink, get a side of onion rings. Then get free water for everyone. You could easily feed 2-3 people on that--and that's only using 1 of your meal credits.

So that 1 credit per person per day can easily cover more than one meal per day.

Totally agree with that. Especially with one under 3, a side or something could be a whole meal for someone that small.

If you plan to stay Value anyway, this will be better than any room discount you'll get.

I agree! Last year we only saved around $175 with our room discount (stayed 8 nights, 9 days in August). This year with this promo we will save over $500. If we want we can also stretch the credits by sharing meals since in the heat we don't tend to eat as much. We can take certain desserts and bottles of water for later as snacks saving us even more money. For our family this was a great discount. We were planning on going during this time anyway and staying at Pop so when the offer came out we booked.

Considering the average entree at DW costs about $11 and you also get a drink and dessert (or substitute sides that roughly cost between $3-$6 each) you're definitely looking at a savings of about $17 per person. I don't even think you can get a cheeseburger meal for under $10, unless you're talking about a kids meal. For a family of four, that's a $64 a day savings.

I noticed that standard room Value prices are about $140 - $160 during this promotion. Would it be even possible to get $64 off your room through Orbitz during this time of year?

You can buy any menu item ala carte- so yes, a simple meal, minus those desserts and sodas averages around 8.00-even less if I happen to grab a kids meal instead....I don't consider using an extra side of fries as 'food' instead of an actual lunch (to split 2 qs creidts among 4 people) Personally I wouldn't split food to the point that the bulk of the meal is those 2 extra sides, and I don't consider those prepackaged (2) dessert choices at many qs or a bathtub sized soda as having any actual value either.
*My point- the 'average' qs meal, a cheeseburger, fries, and a bathtub soda. Take that Cheeseburger and fries, and convert the dessert and soda into two extra sides of fries,or a cup of mac and cheese, still doesn't equal enough actual 'food' for our family. We split items, but the bulk of our meals must include actual food.
You see that '17.00' quickly becomes a game at trying to make those (possible) 4 qs meals into 8(based on a fam of 4 in a room, trying to stretch those credits into lunch and dinner) and you see why the hassle of trying to do this is.... a hassle, and not one that Disney is hoping the average visitor would even think of!
The average visitor will buy 4 average meals using those credits, probably toss away 1/2 the unwanted foods(it's a lot of soda per person for one meal) and that is their bottom line.*

...And.... Now I am making myself curious about dates and deals.... I input the same trip into two places- same hotel(value music) Disney, with the summer promo package for the end of June- 4 nights,5 days. 2 adults, 5 day basic passes- one qs meal per person per day.
their total was about 1490.00 with tax.
I input the same into Orbitz using their current code, tix from Undercover tourist,AND I added 17.00 per day per person(2) for that meal. total was 1329.00 incl. taxes.
And my previous point about NOT actually buying or eating those extra items(and drinking ice water anyway) brings the 3rd party cost down to around 1260.00 (both these packages don't include the other 2 meals)
do it with 4 (adult)people in room- disney total is 2245.xx
orbitz etc total is 2111.xx (1999.00 with my actual food I'd buy and eat)
So yes, it's a discount, but def. not the best there is... I guess it's mater of which way each person prefers to make the deals work

I'm not suggesting that you try to stretch out your meals into lunch and dinner. So I don't see how it would be a game. But if you're staying on sight in a Value room, you're going to be eating theme park food anyways, right? There are plenty of great quick service meals that don't include burgers, fries and pop. My point is, you're still going to be saving that $64. For a family of four, I don't think you can beat it.

The cheapest rack rate for a value in summer is $150 incl tax. They are offering a 20% discount, which would be $30 off. You would need about a 50% discount to get the rate you mentioned.

My wife was looking at a summer trip that we hadn't planned on and was just plugging in some dates last week. With the discount code for the first week of June, I believe, All Star Sports came up at $100/night. We also get tickets through her work which are the cheapest we can find.

If you are going to book through Orbitz, go to ebates.com first and enter Orbitz through there. You'll get a small percentage back from ebates just for using their site- it takes you directly to Orbitz and you just book the regular way; you can even use the Orbitz discount codes!

Thanks I forgot to add that little bit:thumbsup2

Yes. Orbitz offers the same discount on room only ressies that WDW does. Then you add an Orbitz code, which is right on their home page, to get an additional discount. Most often it's 15% to a max of $150 but they are offering better codes more frequently now. The better ones will offer either no capped discount or a higher percentage. Couple those with any Orbucks that you may have and Ebates, you then have a very good discount.

Yes, I do that as well. The ressie I have for March works out to $103/night but I also got $82 back from Ebates which I did not factor into the $103. So really I'm paying $93/night. With rack rate being an average of $180/night my savings is 48%.
