New Stunt Show Confirmed

Since they undoubtedly won't be running two stunt shows at the same time, one must wonder what will replace the Indy show...

OK - This was on the Studios News Today. New attraction for New York area. "Stunt Show" will replace the Residential Street. Construction will start Monday (or shall I say Destruction of Residential Street). Walls will be going up Monday. The theater will be larger than Indiana Jones but smaller than Fantasmic. It is scheduled to open in 2005. Here ya go a MGM Studios.org exclusive.

Has anyone looked at "Studios News Today?" (Which is where?) Is there any independent confirmation? Hey, maybe everything we read is true... or maybe not!

That news comes from a CM. It's been confirmed by a few other sources.

Thanks Mike w.

The residential street was part of the Backlot Studios Tour (i.e. where the "Golden Girls" home was).

wdwguide,
Why couldn't they have two stunt shows? It doesn't sound like an auto stunt show would be similar to the Indy one at all.

They could, and it's probably a safe bet that the car show will be very different from Indiana Jones. But these types of shows are more expensive to operate than regular ones, and if there is a chance that they "cannibalize" each other, Disney will probably close down Indy. This is a bit like the cancellation of Sorcery in the Sky after Fantasmic opened.
Now, they own the rights to that franchise for a mere $1 million per year, so the most likely replacement would be another Indy-themed attraction, most like the Temple of Peril coaster (which is cheap to build) or the Indiana Jones Adventure Ride (if Eisner decides to be unusually generous, because this is a quite expensive ride). Or they may just let it sit there for a few years, which tends to be their preferred way to do things these days.

Well, I hope it's similar to the Stunt Show at Disneyland Paris, which (despite being half in French) is absolutely superb.

Well, I enjoyed the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular...Too bad I'll never have the opportunity to see it again.

Sincerely,

John "anotherboardnposter" Kilduff...

Time does move on, I guess.

I highly doubt that they'll get rid of Indy. The area on residential street has allready been targeted for demolition so I think it's safe to assume Indy will survive.

Is the Golden Girls home still part of the Backlot Tour?

I do so hate it that the Golden Girls house is going to be destroyed. I know the series will always be there, but I loved seeing the house on the Backlot Tour. Another piece of my life is about to bite the dust. **sigh** :( Mickey

As of today, it's no longer part of it. Residential street will be demolished. IMHO there wasn't much to see there anyway. Golden Girls house and the house from an Ernest movie. No huge loses there. The real loss is for Osborne lights but they will probably set it up somewhere else.

So will a visit to Catastrophe Canyon be just that . . . a drive straight to the canyon and back??

Or will it be closed during construction as well?

The Backlot tour will comprise of the water tank portion, Catastrophe Canyon and a tram tour of some newly opened studio stuff.

Where will the lights be displayed if residential street is destroyed? Are the Osborne lights a thing of the past?

The new stunt show will be like the one in Paris, which is a great success.I doubt they will close Indy, because the two are so different from each other.
Greetings from Germany
