FYI- I can't find the other thread but the 2 people sitting there the other day said it was a security structure they will begin using. Just got back from our cruise.

Yeah I asked too. It is just a covered structure that has three long tables just like a bag check.

Said it was so people can't get to the ship if they don't belong on it. So it a check point. There must be some concern that people that don't belong even to the island can get close to the ship.

So they are trying to say there is a problem with refugees on Castaway Cay now that requires a new security checkpoint? That sounds ridiculous, since you already need to show your KTTW card in order to board.

If that's what they're implying, and if that's seriously what the structure is designed for.... All I can say is

We could start a rumour that they are needed because DCL is going to allow people to overnight on Casatawy Cay and take the next ship back. :lmao:

We were on CC two weeks ago (seems like forever ago) and I walked over and took a good look at the structure. There was a CM there with a "earning my ears" ribbon. When I asked what it was, I was told it wasn't open yet. I didn't press since he was new and probably didn't know anything.

It didn't look like a bag check to me. It has a cut out in the middle like someone would stand there and be able to see both sides of the table. I was thinking it could be a check in for excursions.

The VAT is automatically added when you purchase anything on Castaway Cay. The security check makes sense after seeing the long lines to get on and off the ship at Castaway.

I do have a picture. I will add it shortly.

True, it's the new structure to disembark or embark the ship.
They will install the terminals to swipe KTTW cards/magic band readers when it becomes operational.

Oh and it is not nearly big enough!

That gate is new. It wasn't there 2 weeks ago. And we had one CM sit there like the guy in the picture.

Wait...does that mean we have to stand in line twice...once on the island for the KTTW card and once as you get on the ship to go through the x-ray screening?

It was there for the cruise that ended Dec 5th, according to this thread:

Yeah when they make changes like this you kind of wonder what prompted it. I guess we will all find out soon enough. Looks like it might be ready to open any time now.

!

Exactly! It is just going to move the long lines when everyone is rushing back to the ship at the last possible moment. Not very "helpful" at all IMO.

I think Carnival ships have been trying to sneak onto the island. That's probably what it's there for!

That's what I was told by the nice Bahamas-based cm standing there (with 5 colleagues, just chatting but sitting/standing in/near each of the bays in the structure) on the 14th.

The structure was in full operation on Friday (5/8/15) when we stopped at CC. It is a station to check your photo ID and KTTW card. Strangely, there wasn't anything in the Navigator that you should bring a photo ID with you on the island. Although we've cruised on DCL a bunch of times this requirement was new to us and we didn't hear about it until we got down to deck 1 to get off the ship. Nothing that a quick trip back to the room couldn't fix, but better communication would have been nice.
