NEW-STARWOOD PREFERRED GUEST-Questions/Answers

Hi Muffy. I do mean Master Card, though I find it extremely odd that Starwood funnels us all to the Starwood Amex, then offers these super promos on spg.com only to Master Card users. I find that annoying, actually.

Debbie~ Thanks for your reply. I did call spg earlier and was told that the hotel did something to my reservation and that was why it wasn't showing a description. I asked what that meant and she said they (the Swan) were "touching" the reservation (whatever that means). I plan on calling the Swan about a week before our arrival to see about a comp upgrade (we are Gold spg). I e mailed my request about a month ago.

Re: seeing the detail - no I never could. I was referring to last summer when I stayed at the Dolphin I could see my room description - standard / limited view and then about a week before check-in the description changed to CL Room, etc. That is how I found out we received an upgrade.

Thanks again for your reply.

I have only stayed at the Dolphin once as a Starwood member (I'm not an AMEx card holder). Do the Starwood points expire after a certain period of time? Do you have to book with them a certain number of times in a year? These questions have been asked on some other threads and some of us new Starwood people don't know the answer.

Just an FYI.

I had about 10,000 starpoints that I knew I wasn't going to use in the next year. Do you still lose them after a year of inactivity?

So I ordered $125 worth of Gap gift certificates with the points and will use those for school clothes for my son.

I figured I might as well do something with them instead of losing them.

If you are still earning points during the year they don't expire. We saved points for 2 years and then redeemed for flights and nights with starwood.

I knew I wouldn't be earning any pts this year. We don't intend on going back to the Sheraton in Sand Key where we earn most of our points.

Oh well, I know I'll use the Gap gift certificates.

Just added my third night on points for my Christmas trip in a 2 bdrm suite....YIPPPPEEEEE!!!!!

Dec 26, 27, 28 we will be relaxing in the Dolphin in the Exec Suite...I hope the view is good....:D :D :D :D :D

Hey!

We have 20,000 points and were wondering what options we could do with these for our 5 night stay?

How much does
- club level
- jr. suite (Dolphin)
- balcony

...and such cost?

Thanks in advance!

Mike

You can do a few things: Use 10,000 pts to pay for a free night, or 20,000 to pay for 2 free nights. 1,000 pts to pay for Club Level, or use the points as cash to pay for food.

How do you use points to pay for food....?????

As I understand it, you can use your points to pay charges you incur at any of the restaurants, room service, etc. Although I am not sure what the transfer rate is, I am thinking it may be 1,000 pts for every 30 or 50 dollars or so. Just let them know before checking out, and they will adjust your bill.

Thanks CSmommy....doesn't sound like too good of a value.....but it was worth finding out about...

Z's wife.............how many points did it "cost" for the executive suite? We are going to Vero (already booked) and then a few days at Universal and then a few at Disney next Easter. I haven't booked the WDW portion yet........we can't decide if we are staying at a DVC villa or at the Poly (on points........I know...........expensive) I can't do anything until the 7 month window for on-site, but since my family loves the boardwalk area, the Dolphin might be another option.

Thanks.
mary

The Executive Suite if 20,000 points and the Grand Suite is 30,000 points......we decided on the Exec because for a little more room and a eating table it wasn't worth an extra 10,000 points for the Grand.....

I decided on the suite because we need 2 rooms at 10,000 points a piece and I thought it would be easier to all be together........

Thanks for the info. Now I have to save up some more points! (which means I have to stop cashing them in)

My husband was just upgraded to Gold spg. Does this give us a better chance at receiving an upgrade?
