I apologise if you already know about this, but I saw an ad on the TV for this brand new hotel at Alton Towers - certainly sounds exciting!!

Alton Towers second hotel is a 216 bedroom Water Park hotel opening on June 1st -

I expect the rates to be pretty high for this don't you?

It's looks pretty cool I admit, but it IS expensive. Out of curiosity I priced up a room for 2 nights (Fri/Sat) in July (admittedly school holidays) it came out as £540 for 2 adults and £612 for 2 adults 2 children. It's room, breakfast and park entry (plus of course the water park), but still....£540! :o :o :o

I obviously didn't check out the link I posted well enough LOL! I didn't get as far as the rates :teeth:

I'll take a closer look!!

Penny,

I know what you mean!

I priced the new hotel for 2 nights Friday and Saturday (again it was the school holidays) for August 1st and 2nd.For a room for four adults as my youngest two are priced as adults not children (at 13 and 16,when did the UK start pricing children under 16 as adults?? ) the price was £620.I know this includes park passes (another cheek as you used to be able to book room only and get deals on passes yourself like children free etc.) breakfast and the water park thing but I don't know what others think but I think £620 is an astronomical charge:mad:

I priced 2 nights for 2 adults and 2 children for the week before the English schools break up (early July) thinking it would be a bit cheaper but it was still over £500. We had told the boys we would take them but we're not going to now.
I priced a week in Salou and that was cheaper and we could go to Port Aventura and it should be good weather!

It certainly looks very nice but I too was astonished at the prices - I haven't looked into rates for annual pass holders but from a letter we received earlier this year special rates seem limited to specific weeks.

Alton Towers hotel certainly needed some sort of activity for when the park is closed, when we stayed there a couple of years ago we couldn't even get into the swimming pool as it was fully booked for the times we wanted. So the water park should make a big difference.

If anyone stays offsite then not too far away in Stoke there is a very nice indoor water park on the site of the old garden festival.

Hey ScotFan,

Thats funny, Salou is exactly what I was pricing up in comparison to Alton Towers!

I stayed for a week last year in the onsite hotel Port Aventura, that was expensive too but at least it was 'abroad';) It is still too expensive for me to squeeze a short break in the onsite hotel at the moment as we're going to Orlando in October.BUT if I found a cheap deal closer to the time I'd go for 3/4 nights in the summer holidays:p My fingers are crossed but I know that tour operatore have dropped so much of their capacity there won't be too many cheap deals in August:(
