I've heard the spiel - And though it doesn't sound bad it is a little more mundane than the previous voice/version. Hearing it almost puts you to sleep.... ZZZZZzzzzz!
I may be alone in this, but I actually like the new spiel. It sounds clean and serves its purpose. The last thing I want at 8AM is an overly enthusiastic narrator and a "magical" music bed.
If it has indeed changed because they are using a computer to generate it I think that's a good thing. It means they can update it more frequently and maybe even seasonally.
It's expensive to book voice actors, and not always convenient. This way they can have it wish you "Happy Holidays" at Christmas time, and maybe even tell you about festivals, events etc happening at the parks.
I think it'll be interesting to hear what they do with it in the future.
It doesn't give you that happy loving welcoming feeling that the pervious one did. Not the Disney feeling we have all come to love but more like this is a company spiel with what they feel you need to know and that's it.
For the cost of developing and implementing the software to do a voice that life like would buy a lot of studio time from a voice actor.
I think the computer generated voice makes the spiels more flexible. Believe it or not, there is more to worry about than money at the parks. It's definitely one of the largest concerns, but not the only one.
I think the voice is fine. Not as monotone as some think. But, it kind of sounds like this voice that you first hear when getting to Disney.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGqWlWOs3UQ
Double yuck! I also don't think the monorails going near MK should have the silly movie decorations. Save that for by Epcot. The ones near MK and the MK resorts should be traditional.
I don't get the warm fuzzies either. The old voice had more personality -- it made the spiel feel more "personal" and friendly. I can't figure out why they'd go away from a friendly voice in favor of something kinda void of emotion. Not Disney's usual M.O.!
We're at the contemporary this week (blt) and it took me several monorail rides before I even remembered to listen for the change. It seems fine to me.
And they kept all the monorail history on the epcot loop.
