As you may already know, today began the new smoking policy at Universal. Each of the parks has 11 individual smoking locations which I shall list below. I shall also list where tobacco products can be pruchased.

The reason for the policy change was primarily due to Amendment 6 and because of general guest concers. Smoking is prohibited in the parks except in the following locations.

USF:

-Entry Area: Forecourt next to restrooms
-Hollywood: Brown Derby
-Hollywood: Battery Park covered area
-Kidzone: next to Barney restrooms
-World Expo: IFFF next to Amazing Pictures
-World Expo: next to MIB restrooms
-San Francisco: behing Richter's
-Amity/San Francisco: North side of Lombard's Landing
-New York: 7th Ave and Delancey St
-New York: Finnegan;s side of Gramercy Park Circle
-Production: Nickelodeon Way, behind the Universal Studios Store

IOA:

-Entry Area: forecourt between Guest Services and restrooms
-Port of Entry: lower lagoon
-Seuss Landing: Pup is Up, next to Hop on Pop Ice Cream shop
-Lost Continent: Mythos area, next to Posiedon Express distribution
-Lost Continent: Sindbad Village, founrain next to games area
-Lost Continent: right side of Enchanted Oak
-Jurassic Park: right side of Pizza Predattoria
-Toon Lagoon: Ripsaw Falls across from the Toon Lagoon sign
-Toon Lagoon: Me Ship, The Olive, behind Wimpy's
-Marvel Super Hero Island: Chill Ice Cream area next to the Slush stand (across from restrooms)
-Marvel Super Hero Island: Hulk lagoon behind Cotton Candy

All of the above locations will have seating and a pole mounted Smoker's Snuffer incsribed with the message "For the comfort and safety of everyone, smoking is permitted in this immediate area only."

Tobacco products may be purchased at the following locations:

USF:

Silver Screen
Shaiken's

IOA:

Islands Market & Export Candy Shoppe
Dinostore

Hope this helps :)

So if your smoking say, walking to a ride what happens? I don't smoke but I go with someone who does, do you get warned then get kicked out of the park?

I was really surprised that all of our visits that they did not have a policy in force before. It really doesn't bother me, but I agree with the respect of others. I think this was a smart move.

USO-If you get caught, an employee will politely tell you the location of the nearest smoking area. In the park maps it lists the areas with a cigarette symbol. I'm sure there's plenty of signage outside the parks. AP holders should also receive (if they haven't already) a newsletter with the information.

Thanks Dark M for posting.
It's about time Universal had designated smoking areas, Disney has for quite some time now. It's always nice to be walking along with your child and have people's cigarettes coming within inches of their face! NOT!
Not to mention not having to inhale smoke while you wait in line!

USO, if your friend knows the policy, now, and they will, then why ask what the consequences are? Are they that rude that they will ignore the policy and do it anyway so long as they don't get kicked out? It's very uncomfortable for others to have to inhale smoke, and so now they have their own areas. So I hope people will follow the rules! :)

Well, it wasn't really Universal's decision. The new Florida smoking law bans smoking in all public places, so they have to now have designated smoking areas.

I thought it was an "indoors" sort of thing though, and you can still smoke in bars as long as their primary source of income is from booze and not food. So, I think they finally are just catching on that non-smokers don't want to be forced to inhale the smoke...

Karen that is correct the law does deal with indoor locations. You are allowed to smoke in bars as long as they don't serve food. I know that the guests at Universal are using the smoking locations. Last weekend everytime that I walked past one of the spots there was a ton of people in there. It was alot better not having to dodge the burning cigerettes from burning your arm.

I agree that there should be designated areas for smokers. But..... they better be sure and keep those non-smokers outta our areas! (j/k)
Interesting that UO will now sell cigs. in the park. Also, wondered how Finnegans always allowed smoking inside, but had to step outside at Alchemy.
Gotta roll with the changes I guess.

You can still smoke in bars that serve food, but if the bar makes more of it's money FROM food, then it won't be allowed, as they are then classified as a restaurant. If a bar serves food, but still makes most of their money from booze, I'm pretty sure there will be smoking allowed there still.

I know all WDW restaurants have been non-smoking for quite some time.

Jag, that's very odd about the Alchemy vs. Finnegans...could you smoke anywhere at Finnegans or just at the bar? Perhaps they have more of a separation where they can designate smoking/non-smoking there, but Alchemy is all wide open? I dunno.
Anyway, no worry about us invading your smoking space! ;)

Well, I for one am VERY HAPPY! I am tired of walking through the parks and having smoke blown in my face. Of course you will still see people ignoring this rule but I would think for the most part it will be much better.

h20jag, I'll try to stay out of your smoking areas! :) There was a time or two at WDW when i would be sitting on a nice bench and a smoker would walk up and I would then realize that I was in the smoking area. At least they put the smoking areas in attractive settings to encourage smokers to go there without feeling punished.

This morning they had it on the news. If you business does less than 20% of food sales you can still allow smoking indoors.

I ate at Finnegan's yesterday, and noticed a sign by the podium at the door that talked about smoking being prohibited in the restaurant.

Many outdoor Stadiums have had this policy for years prior to Amendment 6. Try telling a Fan(short for FANATIC) to put out his butt after his tailgate party and several rounds in the stands. It gets pretty ugly. But it's private property and they(Management) can do what they wish.
At least theme parks allow you to have areas to get your fix...
For now at least.
