New Signature Rules

Okay, I am a little bit over, now I have to figure out how to fix this.

You can resize the resort images as WolfpackFan has done or combine multiple resorts into one image by cropping each photo as I did.

LisaS, I love the new "Name" of your homes!! Very clever....how would I combine SSR and AKV? Maybe "Saratoga Kingdom Villas" or "Animal Springs Villas"? I think I like the first one better!:thumbsup2

I will have DH (the computer savvy one) shrink our resort pics later on tonight. With my timeline and family smilies....it all takes up a lot of space.:)

I second DisDaydreamer! Please give us an effective Search process! There are so many great past postings on many different topics, but you can never find them. Or, at least, I can never find them!! I can't even find many of my past postings (that is probably a good thing)!

And I will fix my signature right now!

I just wish somehow we could get back the search capabilities... I can't find anything anymore. I am more upset by not being able to search than I am by having to scroll. I can't search for anything.... Give me search... I don't care about having to scroll...........

Sometimes I am a bit too forward about things... this is probably one of those times, but give me my search back..........

Well I've resized my resort pictures to 50%. I think they might now meet the criteria. They are harder to see for sure.
Dear WolfpackFan,
How did you resize your pictures?? We were trying to fiddle with them and cannot figure it out. Any help would be appreciated!:)

Most imaging programs can manipulate photos to easily resize them.

WolfpackFan, in addition to resizing the images, has also uploaded them to his own site so he can link to them. If you are using images from vascubaguy's site you have no way to resize and link to them unless he resizes the images and allows it.

There are a number of free photo sites, including the DIS's Photopost, where images can be stored and then linked.

BTW- the signature "box" program has been turned on as of about 8:30pm so we can all see the effects of the new program.

While we realize that there are other ongoing issues regarding the DIS - most notably the "search" function - this new program signature change frees up a lot of time/effort for the moderators who no longer need to spend time acting on the huge volume of "Signature Violation Reports" made on a daily basis.

If anyone needs help modifying their signature just ask on the Technical Support Board here on the DIS.

The search function remains a priority and a solution is still being worked on. Part of the problem is finding a balance between the load created by "search" and the speed of the boards. With the volume of traffic on the DIS, those are not easy problems to solve and for the time being we've opted to sacrifice search for relative speed - and even then, speed is still related to the traffic at any given time.

Stay tuned! :)

I downloaded the pictures to my PC and then used Microsoft Office's Picture Manager to resize them. I then uploaded them to my personal website and that is where the pictures load from.

Wow, I take it that's why lots of signatures now have half a banner or half emoticons floating along the bottom. I didn't realize that it happened automatically, but I can see that this would save you guys time trying to individually police signatures. Here's wishing you luck with the search features!

Well, the bottom line of my sig was cut in half. I modified my sig slightly by going to the blank lines and making them "1" in size. It pulled my bottom line up.

If anyone wants an idea of the exact size being given to us, my sig just makes the maximum height from the top line to the bottom "boo'ed" comment. In case anyone is interested.

And, in my humble opinion, this is more than enough space for us to play with in signatures and definitely takes the burden off of all the moderators having to be "signature police."

Thanks for helping to keep things uniform!

Notice:

I need to apologize as I believe I've misled many of you in how the new system will work. I'll try to clarify.

You could not put the resort photos side by side under the old system as they would cause a user's browser to scroll off screen. That's why I said anyone who had done that needed to change back immediately, meaning until the new signatures program was turned on.

You are allowed to put them side by side now that new signature system is on. But you need to understand the consequences if you exceed the 600 pixel width.

What will happen is that the side by side images will display on your, and everyone else's monitor up to the width of their screen. So if you have a higher resolution monitor, you may see two or even three of the resort images placed side by side, show on just one line.

But for someone else's system, using a lower resolution monitor, your images will will wrap on their computer. This may result in part of your signature not displaying on their computer at all. In other words, your signature will be truncated on the other user's computer as soon as the 'displayed' signature reaches 250 pixels in height.

In other words if on your computer, everything fits within the 250 pixel height dimension, your whole signature will show. But if someone else has a lower resolution, your signature may wrap differently and go to 400 pixels. The system will truncate it on THEIR machine to 250 pixels. They won't see your entire signature.

The posts I made with the illustrations were twofold:

1. The first two were meant to show what happens under the old system if you put two of those graphics side by side and what it would do to someone with a lower resolution monitor.

2. The other 3 images with the green box were meant to show that if you restrict your signature to 600 pixels wide, your entire signature will still display on everyone's computer. None of your signature would be truncated.

I did not mean it to say you could ONLY go to 600 pixels. You can go whatever width you want. Just be aware that other users will probably not see your full signature, but will only see the part that displays on their computer.

Hope I didn't make this too technical, and sorry for the confusion.

Thanks WebmasterDoc....We resized our original pics and cropped them, then uploaded them to the DIS's Photopost, then were able to link them to our signature.

My DH suggested just getting rid of the "ticker"....but I kind of like it.:)
