I've been reading where they are charging alot more now for shipping your purchases home and some people have posted some cost cutting ways to ship things. We want to purchase several Christmas balls (with our names painted on) and some other Christmas items from the Christmas store, but since they would be so easy to break if we tried to take them on board or packed them ourselves does anyone know about how much the shipping would be from the Christmas store? An for shipping the other purchases, does anyone know of anymore cost cutting ideas besides trying to pack it ourselves and shipping from the front desk?We have always shipped several things home but this year with the new cost we may think twice about some things. Also,if we shipped from the Christmas store, and anything was broken,do they replace it?Thanks. :) :) :)

Sorry for the crappy formatting, but that's how Disney sent it to me, LOL.

I'm in a similar predicament as the OP. I guess Disney doesn't want us to buy as much stuff by penalizing us for the dollar amount. I'm sure it will cost more to ship 20 $10 items as it would 1 $200 item, yet the price structure certainly doesn't reflect that.

I really was ready to invest in one of those nice snow globes, but I'm not willing to pay so much for shipping, I can't take it on the plane (liquids, LOL), and if I ship it from the resort I don't get any protection against damage. If WDW ships something and it's broken, they will take care of it. If you ship it yourself from the resort, you are taking your own responsibility (not to mention will have to pack packing supplies, etc. to bring down - what a pain, even if they do give you a box).

Hopefully Disney will review this soon...something tells me if their sales go down as people start to realize how much they've been hiked (up to 400%), we might see a restructure of the system.

We can hope.

In June I shipped a $125 statue for about $16 this past trip a $85 snowglobe was $22.

They switched from Ups to all Fed-Ex and they are adding insurance to all shipping to cover themselves. This is why it's more price based instead of weight based. It also went from 10day ground to 20 days and thats just crazy.

If you box and ship it yourself I think the cost would be about the same as you would still have to pay taxes as you are taking the item from the store yourself.

It really depends on what you are shipping.

For what it's worth in an effort to guess shipping time, we purchased items at WOD last Monday night, the 23rd, and had them shipped ground to CT (the least expensive of the new options). The items arrived today. It was one box, maybe 5 pounds.

Two weeks ago we were in WDW after a 7 day cruise so of course we had way too much stuff to bring home in our suitcases (LOL). We went to a UPS store right up the street from the premium mall and and shipped a 35 lb box with $300.00 insurance on the afternoon of 10/23 and it arrived in Tulsa OK on 10/26 at 9:30 in the morning. The entire transaction at UPS was $26.50 and this included 2 $125 Harmony Kingdom boxes. The phone number of this store is 407-465-1700. Sure saved us a lot of money!!!

Pack an extra suitcase full of bubble wrap & bring it home. :confused3

Oversize things like the big figures are best shipped anyway unless you drive.

Great tip, thanks!

It is a hefty price tag. Believe me, my mother and I combined our purchases and we spent $112 to ship it back. We figured that my AP discount and no tax pretty much took care of it but still!!

They do package the items very well though, so it was worth it to not have to worry about it, have it insured and know it would be taken care of if something were lost or broken. Plus not having to package it ourselves.

Still $112 was tough to swallow.

1) Shipping is now a profit center.
2) Just like resort room phone service.
3) The best way around it is
. . . collect all your purchases
. . . get a free box from the resort gift shop
. . . box them at the resort
. . . have the resort Front Desk seal the box and send them
. . . FEDEX and UPS are done at regular rates, without surcharge
