Oh I forgot to mention my roommate is currently on the Magic for a 7 day and he said they blew the whistle continuously for 10 mintues to Celebrate the naming of the new ships. Did anyone get video?!? eheh Id love to see it!

I actually think that the Disney Dream is very appropriate, more so than for Carnival. Afterall, Disney was literally built on dreams.

I just read about it on orlanosentinel.com and I had to get over here as soon as I read it!

I saw the announcment on wesh.com

Though they got some details on the Magic/Wonder wrong in the article...lol

Oh and I am sure that the two new ships will assume the iteneraries of the Wonder and Magic as the two new ships will home port for atleast the first 5 years at Port Canavral, although I would not be opposed if they would spice up the 3 and 4 day cruises......

I think everyone pretty much knew one of the ships would be Dream though lol

The new Carnival Dream looks pretty nice with that huge water slide DCL is going to have to step up quite a bit to keep up with the competition.

Yeah, Fantasy... well, it doesn't exactly conjure up Disney-esque connotations for me... more along the lines of another Carnival ship, the Ecstacy...

ITA! And I will echo what some others said -- just yesterday after I received the email about the names, I told DH, "I like Dreams, but really think Wishes would have been way better than Fantasy."

Though perhaps if they stuck a guy in a white suite on the dock at Castaway Cay to greet everyone, Fantasy might work.

I like Fantasia better then Fantasy, but after reading all of the posts on this thread, Fantasy is already starting to grow on me.

When I called DCL to prebook a suite on the cruise in 2011 I was told I could not yet but had to wait until they announced the itineraries in November. Guess we have quite a wait to know where we will be vacationing in 2011.

November???? Cruising first week, I hope I can starting booking then.

Ok names, but not very orginial, like others have said, Carnival Ship names already.

I think the names are just fine! I have expected these names since the beginning - mainly because the two types of annual passes available at Disneyland Paris are the Dream pass and the Fantasy pass. I think the four ship names go really well together.

Hope the 2 new sisters will be more innovative than that!!

I can see it now people confusing the Carnival brand with Disney.
People have a hard time now knowing that Disney has 2 ships of their own and/or thinking the Big Red Boat still sails under the "Disney umbrella".
I can see Carnival passengers showing up at the wrong terminal to board the ship--if the Carnival Fantasy ever comes back to PC.

I am sure I will like the new ships... just HATE the names! Why copy Carnival, of all cruise lines? Geesh.

They didn't copy anyone. Magic Wonder and Dreams are named after the 3 buildings at Disneyland hotel. carnival knew Disney would be using that name later so made sure they had a ship by that name first.

My daughter thought it would be a good idea if they named them after the 4 "lands" at the Magic Kingdom - the Frontier, the Adventure, the Fantasy (there is one!) and the Tomorrow (iffy on that one).....but not a bad idea for a Diz freak

I'm happy with both the names, and really the name of the ship won't stop me from sailing on them. I'm just excited to have them moving forward. I'll be on the Magic over Thanksgiving so it'll be interesting when they do finally allow bookings on the Dream!
