New Service: store your personal vacation gear

Here's what plan to bring so far (subject to change on my whims :rotfl2: )

Caddy for our toiletries
Tube of toothpaste and toothbrushes
Bottle of lotion
Larger than travel sized but smaller than regular sized shampoo & conditioner
Bar soap (I really like my Olay Shea Butter soap)
Liquid Dial hand soap for the bathroom
Mach 3 shaving kit and can of shaving cream
Baby wipes
Smallish tube of baby oil gel
Feminine products
Target brand "clorox" wipes
Ziploc bags
Queen sized fitted sheet (I'm sooo not into fixing the bottom flat sheet daily -we're staying in a studio this trip, so Queen sheet. If and when we stay in a larger unit, I'll bring a King fitted sheet).
Pair of pillowcases (after reading some of the past posts on the DIS, the skeeve factor set in and I want my own!)
Laundry detergent and dryer sheets
Laundry bag
Flip flops
Salt/pepper
Coffee/coffee filters
Sugar
String backpack/carryall (just bought on sale at Target yesterday for half off - only $3.99! :thumbsup2 ). Great for the pool or the parks.
Mini wallets (just bought two of these at Target's Dollar Spot yesterday - so who cares that they're decorated with characters from Family Guy? They'll hold our KTTW cards and a few bucks - perfect).
Alka Seltzer/Tylenol/Benadryl/Immodium - these don't expire for a while.

Hmm, that's it for now, but I'm sure I'll grab a few other items on our way down. Maybe a couple of the dollar disposable ponchos. If I can find some cheap wineglasses before we leave, maybe a pair of those. The only reason I'm not going to keep sunblock is that after several months it loses its effectiveness, so I'll just bring fresh each trip.

jvdm, in the e-mail you sent you mentioned a website for testers...Is that something I need to log into before I leave for my trip on Saturday, 2/3/07? If so, could you e-mail or PM the link? Thanks!

This sounds so cool! Do you already have your test group picked - and if not, where do I apply? We are going to be down there ALOT in the next two years and would love to do this! (We live in PA so the less luggage, the better!)

Hey, jejojual,

Yep, we've filled our quota of Beta Trial Members. The response has been fantastic and it didn't take long at all for us to have our 100 happy volunteers--most of whom came from here on The DIS. Please do go to our website and register your interest. You can also read some rather boring blog articles there (at least that's what my kids say) that describe the service. And, I'm sure we'll have some sort of promotion for folks who have signed up before we officially open for business.

We've got a great group of Trial Members who are testing every aspect and providing feedback on how we can fine tune our service. And as soon as we're satisfied that all of our systems (which are a lot more complicated than you might think) are working perfectly we'll get started.

Just got home today and LOVED LOVED LOVED the locker and now have DVC friends who have LOCKER ENVY!!! The service was top notch. Our locker was waiting for us at SSR on Tuesday and we dropped it off today and when we got home, there was an email telling us our locker is safely locked away until our next visits in July, August, October and December.

Thanks you guys for the stellar service and great product! Best wishes!

Measurements are listed as 22" long x 13" wide X 20" high. The photos look bigger than that. Are these measurements correct? DH is anal and is planning to make a mock-up to see what will fit! :rotfl:

Hey Jean,

The Locker is 22 inches long, 20 inches wide and 13 inches high. Have a look:

www.ownerslocker.com

Click on "What is Owner's Locker"--there's a photo there together with a list of all the items shown which should help your husband in his planning. He can always PM me or I'm even glad to work with him by phone...no need to build a prototype!

Thanks! I had copied the numbers wrong--transposed the 20" and 13" numbers. DH loves to do this kind of thing and it keeps him busy!
Thanks for quick response. My list of items is L-O-N-G. I've heard wonderful reports and can't wait to meet my new box on Mar. 18!

I already provided my feedback to the OL creators, but wanted to share here, too. I used mine for the first time at the end of Feb. I was most impressed. The container is pretty big. My stuff didn't come close to filling it up.

I particularly liked the dividers and the smaller box for small, easily misplaced items. Great ideas. I'm sharing the container with my sister and her family. She said she's already got her pile of Owners Locker stuff to take along. She's the type that always forgets to pack the rain ponchos she bought last time. She probably has 15-20 at her house. She told me she already has enough for the family in the suitcase and they're not going to WDW until late May!

This is a great idea, a great service and I think it'll be well worth the money.

Wow! That is an awesome business idea.:thumbsup2 We do not go down enough to make it worth it now. (We rent points every couple of years) We are hoping to buy a DVC in the future and I am going to remember this service for then!

Add this to the "Now why did'nt I think of that" :lmao:

Just a note.

I picked up my locker at CBR yesterday event. It's like Christmas seeing what I left in there from the last visit LOL!

I get to visit my Locker next month! :) I am wondering about one thing though. DH is going down a couple of days early for Sun 'N Fun and staying offsite at a Priceline Hotel. He can certainly live without all the goodies I packed, but it might be nice for him to have it. Has anyone had a delivery at an offsite hotel, and if so, how did it go? I'm not even sure if this in an option at this time. I probably should go read my paperwork, but we have a foot and a half of snow to deal with this morning!

We had our first DVC & Owner's Locker experience earlier this month. I shipped a box to myself via FedEx b/c I simply didn't have the room to pack all the things I knew I'd want to store. Brita water dispenser/filters, laundry detergent, coffee, tea, various ears, Pal Mickey, sheets, and more met us along with the Locker at SSR. the one thing I didn't have was scissors...memo to self for future visits! My nail clippers wouldn't gnaw through the closure tab, so I had to call my DD to bring me scissors to get it open. The thing is a great size and easy to store in the foyer of a studio. We moved to WL for Fri/Sat and it was easy to store there against the adjoining room door. It was nice having the extra space to chuck thing into that we wouldn't need for those two nights. The Locker and the WL stay convinced me, however, that I do NOT want to do another 3nt-2nt-3nt vacation combo again and I'll just suck it up and spend the extra points for the weekend. More :coffee: and less :scared:

When it was time to go, I packed the laundry detergent, Brita filter, coffee, tea, sugar packets, creamer, Mickey mugs, ears, Pal Mickey, sunscreen, lotion, shampoo, tangle spray, bar soap, sheets, ponchos, and more. Did I listen and make a list? Nope...next time. I'd planned to do a "time capsule" of our favorite things and "first things" for the next trip, but forgot in the packing frenzy.

My locker made it "home" before I did and I'm happy to know that my goodies are safely ensconced until September. BTW, the water filter dispenser was a HUGE plus. DDs cannot tolerate WDW water and the savings right there alone was worth it, plus not having to lug heavy packs of water bottles around. It took up some real estate inside the locker, but I was able to pack things inside of it, too, so the size was perfect.

Somewhere along the line I missed this thread. . .sounds wonderful!!
Are you still doing the test run? Can we still be part of it? Or is it now all official?

Thanks -

Ellen

I think the service is getting ready to officially open for business soon. You can watch the DIS for announcement, or go to the OwnersLocker.com site and sign up for the official start-up information.

We used it twice now and really enjoy having our "stuff" waiting for us when we arrive on each trip.

John,

Is there a minimum stay for this service, or are you willing to do delivery & pickup for any length stay? Also, is the locker something bell service will transfer (along with luggage) if doing a split stay?

I cannot say enough about these guys. I have had an opportunity to deal with John and Brian regarding a couple of issues (rescheduling a trip, registration and sign-in info, clarification questions, etc) and they are extremely pleasant, polite and especially helpful. They seem quite willing to do whatever possible to resolve whatever issues arise.

Just making my lists (of what to store) was enough to change me from believing we might not really need this service (or not for the (relatively minor) price) to already knowing I won't want to live without this service! I am SO looking forward to not having to pack all that "extra" stuff, not to mention not having to store it somewhere at home between trips.

I've already decided that until they come up with a way to deal with Vero Beach stays, any future trips to Vero Beach will include one night back at an Orlando hotel. This way, I can have my locker picked up and then use ME back to the airport.

That's exactly what we plan to do. As an International visitor our month long trips usually start off in a private villa then move on site and lastly at Vero Beach. We plan to spend the first night when we arrive at a value resort and collect our locker then do our usual villa stay, head down to Vero and then finish up at one of the on site DVC resorts so that our box can be collected again :thumbsup2

What a wonderful idea!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
We won't be down there till August, so I guess I will wait to sign up closer to then.
