Hello everyone...I am considering opening a scrapbook store REALLY CLOSE to Disney featuring EVERY Disney scrapbook product there is, but I don't know if there is still a demand for scrapbook supplies in this age of digital scrapbooking. I would love to hear any input/feedback that you all may have.
Thanks so much!!!!

There is a scrapbook store called Mouse Memories. They have a great selection of Disney product. I was there in August. You have to drive about 15 - 20 minutes from Disney. They have a website: mousememories.com and the directions to there location are on the website. I spent quite a long time there and got a lot of nice things.

Yes, I've been to that store but it is quite a drive from the parks. I was thinking of putting one near Celebration. Do you think there is still enough interest in Disney scrapbook supplies for this to succeed?

I'd say the interest is there .. or here .. or someplace :lmao:

Will you carry anything non-Disney? Not doing so might limit your customer base. Are your target customers locals or tourists?

If it's locals, consider your "competition": Mouse Memories, Michaels, Jo-Ann (if they're in the area) and Scrappers Boutique (on Sandlake near FL Mall) and other "big box" stores.
Walmart has scrap stuff - no Disney, though. The Scrap Your Trip warehouse is also in the area & allow shopping after they give you a tour (it's done twice a week).

The tourists may have difficulty getting to Celebration unless they have cars. Many don't.

If you want to open a store further west, come to Texas. We don't have a LSS in Fort Worth, yet we host the Great American Scrapbook Convention every year! Go figure!

I think it would do well. Have you considered having a internet store as well. I dont get to Disney often, but I buy Disney stuff all the time for past trips and upcoming trips. I use MouseMemories internet site. When I do get back to Disney area I would make a special time to go to a store like yours.

As others say consider transportation. Those who are in the parks may not be able to reach you. And carrying other topics would increase your market base a lot, but you could have a super specialized decked area for the Disney supplies.

There is a nice scrapbook store near Disney at the Florida mall and a huge Michaels i would say bit risky at present to open another one theres alsoJo anns lot of tourist want a bargain and so manyscrapbook stores closing there used to be so many .Pictails in Orlando is newer i havent been there used to be a loveley one inJacksonville but she went out of business after many years Good luck i hope iy works out keep us posted.

Yes, I think it would do well if you price your stock reasonably. Nothing against MouseMemories but they are a bit overpriced! I have found the same stickers, embellishments & paper priced up to a dollar less at other internet stores and LSS.

I have a friend that had a scrapbook store for 7 years and has had to close mainly because she moved location and people didn't know where the new store was located - good news though she's opened an Ebay store and is doing great. So you may want to consider opening an internet store in conjunction with the physical store.

Another friend has a store near the beach and she's still doing fantastic - her specialty is Disney since she's a Disney fanatic :lmao: and is a wonderful scrapper so she has all the up-to-date stock and her classes are wonderful.

Good luck and let us know whether you do it so I can put your store in our schedule.

There is another store called Piktails located in Hunters Creek (Town Center and John Young). Also not far from Disney (closer then the one at the FL Mall) and they carry all sorts of Disney, universal, and Sea World. They have a website, but I do not think they have a webstore.

I think the market may be a bit saturated.

Celebration is not a bad idea, but think overhead with rent in that area.

I think starting an internet store may be a good idea since you can do it out of your house with less overhead maybe.

Goodluck with your decision.

Also be aware that alot of the othe companies that focus on Disney (mousememories etc.) Have designers that do some of their paper so they will still have specialized items. It is very expensive to run a scrapbook store as you have to meet different requirements for different companies so naturally your prices will have to be higher than Joanns and others. It is a great idea and my LSS sells alot of Disney stuff that I have never seen before but it cost alot more too but I pay the price. If you do this I would try to do all local attractions though (Disney, Seaworld, Universal etc.) as well as different activites (waterparks, minigolf etc.)

HEY ALL, I'm new to this forum, have barely begun to scratch the scrapbooking surface - I've wanted to start forever, but it's very daunting. I've found the mouse memories website really informative from a beginner's standpoint, and I've decided to to Disney scrapping exclusively for my first album. I've got several trips to cover
Anyway, the prices for everything are sooooo expensive and I was just wondering if anybody can suggest a retailer with a good Disney inventory that may be cheaper than mouse memories. Or an ebay seller. Also, where is the most reasonable place to buy cardstock and supplies that aren't Disney-specific?

If any of you can point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it cause right now I'm feeling very disoriented. Just trying to figure out what things are necessities and what can wait until I'm more seasoned is dizzying enough. I have a friend who has been doing this for quite a while, has a whole dedicated scrapping room and has graciously invited me to come learn with her, but with 6 kids b/w the two of us, there never seems to be time! Plus I'm a travel agent and I work from home (Disney exclusive of course!) So there just aren't enough hours in the day. Any help or advice greatly appreciated!!!
:thanks:

Hey, lspindler

just saying hi.

I have known OP for many years. She used to own our LSS till she moved to Disney. In fact I used to work for her. She's extremely creative and knows what's involved to own and run a scrapbook store. I miss her "tearably"
I've already expressed my 2 cents but I will just echo the transportation concern.

Not only transportation, but the sheer number of other stores already in the area - Not just Mousememories, PikTails, Scrappy Boutique, and ScrapYour Trip, but there are about 6 - 8 others within a 20 mile radius. It's one of the most store intensive areas I've been in - and I always hunt for the SB stores because we don't have an LSS here any more.

Hi, just wanted to say that scrapbooking is becoming HUGE in the UK and there are so many people asking for details of scrapbook stores for when they are on holiday.

Also, if you do decide to go down the internet route you could do a lot worse than posting to the UK. The prices here for things are basically $-£ ie if something costs $10 it costs £10. That's around $17. Many of the scrappers I know buy their stash from the Us over the internet.

Hope that helps - good luck :goodvibes
