Off Site: Don't be surprised if you see offsite announcement soon. Think big! Colorado seems to be top of the list. Looking at building a skiing/golfing year round resort on existing property. Throw in a Disney Quest type entertainment, a Colorado downtown (similar to downtown disney with shops, restaurants with business partners, etc, along with shows, snowmobiling, snow tubing, hiking (summer), jeeping, horseback riding, and DVC believes they will have a hit.

DQ? Oh that'll be a big draw. Seriously. They'd be better off distancing themselves from theme park fare, especially DQ. They should focus on developing resort experiences at premier destinations that extenuate the regional attractions, and not try to transplant WDW. If someone wants a WDW experience, sell them SSR... If they want a Colorado experience, put some Disney creativity to work to make it a uniquely Colorado adventure… then take on other tier 1 destinations: Hawaii, Caribbean.

Personally, I hope they do build a DVC in Colorado since I live in Colorado. It would be nice to have a local option to use to alternate with WDW vacations. I don't know if I would purchase more points, but I question if I would purchase more points period. Hawaii would be nice too, but I would not go to Hawaii as often due to the travel costs.

I think we will see the home resort priority window reduced in the near future.

I sure hope you are wrong!

I would like to see the home resort priority increased, not decreased! IMHO, owners should have a longer opportunity to book their home resort as well as a higher priority for requests. We bought where we want to stay the most.

CarolMN, I know the wisdom on the DIS says to buy where you want to stay the most, and its smart advice too! But, there are many many DVC members who don't DIS, and who were told by their Guides when they bought in that "home resort is not that big of a deal, you can buy (insert whatever we're selling at the moment) and stay at (whatever your favorite DVC is)!" I would imagine DVC will make alot of members happy if they reduce the priority window. The way I thought the documents read was that you get priority at your home resort, but it doesn't specify how much priority. Chalk me up as another one who thinks the home resort priority window will be decreased, despite the uproar it will create on the DIS

Although DVC legally reserves the right to cut the home resort period to only 1 month (11 months vs. 10 months) compared the curent 4 months (11 months vs. 7 months), DVC has not done so, and there's no reason to believe that they ever will.

The current system works. It's what members were told when they bought. And any change would upset many members.

I didn't think there was a Williamsburg DVC - there was a park planned near Richmond???? - but the natives caused such an uproar that Disney backed down.

Okay the last time I looked at the rules - DVC could shorten the time period that you have to wait to make a non-home reservation - but I don't remember that it even mentioned making it longer????

this would be a good selling tool (if they can) for making DVC members buy into Hawaii.....

I have to tell you one thing, DVC has spoiled me at to where I stay. At least when I book a DVC home onsite at Disney, I know what to expect and what I'll be getting.

We are looking at hotels in the DisneyLand California area and I'd pay top points at this point to be able to book something Disney (not just a hotel - a home type place).

I've never been to Colorado, but I have to tell you at one point in the future if it was a Disney DVC type I might actually think about it.

I believe you are talking about Disney's America to be built in Prince William County, Virginia near the Manassas Civil War battlefield. It was supposed to be a historical theme park but was strongly opposed by local residents and many historians. Here is a link for more information. If you look at the conceptual drawings you may notice many similarities, albeit with slightly different theming and presentation, to some of the areas in California Adventure.

I think DH would hit the floor if they built in Colorado. That would be a definite place of interest for him and Hawaii would be for me. I really wish Disney would expand into the other areas. I would love to see California and too bad on the Times Square idea in NYC. I think expansion will increase demand. Alot of families especially in my case look for resorts that cater to families. I think that more resorts for DVC would be amazing

A Colorado ski DVC resort would definetly interest us!!! In fact DH just brought up that wishful thinking last week, wait till I tell him its in the rumor mill. We like to ski already plus love Disney - CO DVC would be a great combination for us!!!

DH and I are now in the planning stages of taking our boys skiing. I think we would buy points at a Colorado DVC. My boys are only 6, I think I would get alot of use out of a ski lodge for many years.

I would definately buy Hawaii if I could use it every third year. That is the one thing that has kept us from buying a Hawaii timeshare. We can't see ourselves going every year, and a DVC type plan for Hawaii would be ideal for us!

Does anyone know how much pressure is increasing on VWL, BCV and OKW for ressies at 7 months (or less) out? SSR also must affect it but at least going to SSR is not a bad default location. It has to be getting pretty tough already and things like this can only make it worse-or will enough start going to these other locations that it wont be a big deal? In other words there is no way we would buy at Colorado but we would for sure go there on points once in a while. Would a lot buy Colorado but usually go to WDW? Or would most buy Colorado and rarely go to WDW? Just wondering after reading the changing the 7 months out comments.

Dh and I would love to stay in CO at a DVC resort . Don't know if we would buy. But I'm not saying never! It would depend on lots of other stuff.
But we would visit.

i would be all over the CO DVC points. We would love to go skiing in the winter and to WDW in late summer/early fall. That would be aweseome!

I would prefer a CO resort over another on site resort. We go skiing out west every year. However, we always stay ski-in ski-out -- that would be a requirement for us. And the resort would also be important. I guess I'm a little picky about skiing.

I think it would be risky for DVC to venture into a completely different market. They have a lot of members from NY, NJ and New England. They would have to market in a completely different geographic area. On the other hand, if successful they would probably draw new visitors to WDW -- because the have points.


I don't think it would be fair to change the booking window. When we took a tour the guide stressed the importance of the window -- ie he didn't minimize it at all.
