New rope drop procedure at MK

I really liked the old rope drop with the train and the characters. I hope they somehow incorporate that

I remember this rope drop procedure from years past. My brain can't figure out when, but I know I've walked behind a rope before.

Its funny, doesn't matter what kind of fast pass changes are made. There is always going to be a need to rope drop and run for something. lol

Yes, this happened to us in 2011 at MK. It was strange though because we were there the Tuesday after Thanksgiving for about 2 weeks...not exactly crowd-busting mornings. I think our longest wait that whole trip was maybe 30 minutes. I do think it's a good idea though during the busy holiday times.

The best way to enjoy Magic Kingdom is breakfast before the park opens at CP the food is the best.pixiedust:

That happens outside the gates, BEFORE rope drop. I assume that this hasn't changed.

Your right, it hasn't changed. They still do the "Good Morning" show with the train. It's right after that that people are escorted down Main St.

I've experienced this at MK, but not in the last year, so it's definitely not a new procedure. It's probably just a safety procedure they can use on an as-needed basis. They (Phil Holmes?) probably thought there weren't enough CM's to keep kids safe on the way to Frozen on those days.

So the ceremony still takes place?

How does this affect pre "rope drop" breakfasts? Assuming you are "in" the park before rd- do they then make you leave and get behind that rope?

Yes the ceremony is still there

My question is: What is the point of getting there at rope drop if you want to do the other rides but none of the other areas open until 9? Is the rope drop/extra magic hour now only for character meet n greet? Maybe I'm confused?

If we have a 8:50am BBB on a day with a 9am opening time no EMH I was advised we need to be in the park at 8:30. In the park meaning past the gates walking to BBB. This rush to be first means people will be lining up early. Which means we will have to fight a crowd to get to this ADR. I'm getting anxiety just thinking about this.

From my experience, they have a special line for early breakfast res's and escort you to the restaurant.

Thank goodness!!! I was going to call and find out what this procedure has changed if anything for the early ADR. If there is an escort then I'm sure it won't be the madness I'm afraid of.

We have early breakfast reservations in Nov at Crystal Palace. The CM we made reservations with said be sure to have your confirmation number so you can get in to your breakfast and give yourself at least 15 minutes to walk to CP.

I'm curious about this as well. We have an 8:05 ADR at CRT in November. Assuming we are done with breakfast by 9:00 (posted park opening time) and assuming this frenzy is still ongoing, I wonder what our procedure will be?

Both really good questions.

When you enter the park, you'll go off to the left and a CM will ask for your name to verify your reservation. There's a line to the left you wait in and around 8 AM they let people start going in.

After breakfast and before opening, you will go through the castle and there will be a rope right in front of the carousel. You wait there until opening and eventually the rest of the crowd will be behind you. On the first day I did this I believe they just dropped the rope at this point asking guests to go around the carousel and blocked people going straight to the right for Princess Fairytale Hall. The second time I did this, when I was in the park for a morning reservation, you walked around the carousel with the rope ahead of you and they dropped it around Fairytale Hall. Most people will probably go to the left since you go in that direction before turning around the carousel. I kept to the right, which put me inwards right by the carousel. That got me into the A & E line with no issues. If you're going to the section of the newer Fantasyland, watch out as you cross diagonally through the crowd. Strollers will be coming your way!

Rope drop and EMH are two different things. Rope drop means when the park opens, but EMH is when the park opens and hour early for resort guests. On EMH days "rope drop" is usually 8am. On regular days rope drop is at 9am. I hope that made sense;)

On our last trip we went in November. I'm fairly certain we got to MK for morning EMH. And we couldn't get to any other area but Main Street. All the lands we roped off with cast members guarding the entrance. We wanted to get in line early for meeting the fairies. We were really disappointed. There was a huge crowd and we ended up having an hour wait. Can any one explain what we did wrong?
