New rooms released?

We have an existing booking for next year but our flights home are 2 days after our checkout date. Rather than have to pack, change hotel, unpack, repack, get transfer to the airport I had rang to check about extending our stay for 2 extra nights. The cast member said they were sold out of standard rooms but to check back as they will release more rooms. Does anyone know how often or when they release more rooms?

Thanks,
K

I'm with @_auroraborealis_, Disney doesn't typically hold back rooms and then release them later. I suspect the CM used a poor choice of words, was uninformed, or just gave you a line that probably made you feel good when getting off the phone. I hate to be so cynical but sometimes the phone CMs just aren't that good.

Regardless, yes, people change all the time so rooms can become available.

Mind if we ask what resort and time of year? That may help give more specific feedback.

I agree with the PP's. Your room category may or may not become available. If you know you need a hotel for two extra nights and don't want to be really inconvenienced, I would book whatever category is available at your current resort for those last two nights and then keep checking if your first room category becomes available. If you don't lock something in, you may very well be changing resorts.

They do hold back some rooms for sites like Expedia, Travelocity to sell. Generally those sites will have a similar room discount to booking through Disney. You could check with them to see if they have availability. You can simply have Disney provide you with their confirmation number and at it to MDE.

Technically, those are two sets of inventory. Disney isn't holding anything for those online travel agencies. That said, it's a very good idea to check those sites to see if a room is available.

We are staying at POR in June 18 :) thank you for all your responses! I rang back again and another cast member said the dates I am interested in are currently blocked out (??? possibly just a fancy way of saying booked up)

Travel agents can get blocks of rooms as well. We can hold a block for clients at a discount and then release if we don't sell as many as we set aside. Those would be "released" into inventory and magically appear.

So hopefully if I hold off and check online every day I should get the room I would prefer... Hopefully! If not then I will just go ahead with the more expensive room, but would rather use the money for treating the kids than a view that I won't see because I'm not in the room until bed time, by which stage I have the curtains closed!
