My boss just had the pleasure of dealing with a "Poolside Resort Fee". She was at a conference in Phoenix for 1 night. She submitted the bill from the hotel to get reimbursed. Our system is all electronic and she entered the total on the bottom of the statement since that is what she paid. Corporate accounts sent her an email saying they were denying $39.98 of the expense request because leisure and entertainment is not covered.

After several nasty emails going back and forth about there being no leisure or entertainment during the 22 hrs she was there, it turns out it was a $40 mandatory "Resort Fee" for the pleasure of staying at their lovely establishment. Accounts finally agreed to pay it.

I'm sure this is a marketing trick to make you think you are paying less, but I also wonder if it is a way around the resort or traveler tax many places add onto hotel fees. Around here, the extra 12.5% is only on the actual room rate, not any additional fees.

Let's see, do some comparing here...that's 4x...carry the 2...cross multiply the 8...get the cosign of the 12...square that to the numerator of the tangent...add 10...and...yep...just as I figured:

Ah... I see the problem with your math.... First it's not cosign (that is for the loan you will need to stay) it's cosine.
Second, it's more than crazy! It's insane!

If the DW didn't love Disney so much we might go elsewhere, so what's a good DH to do? (Get another job on top of it?)

Thinking of the resort fees, anyone remember the old KOA's? Price was 1 night, cheap, a/c extra $, extra person extra $, water extra $, electric extra $, sewer extra $, pet extra $, electric heat extra $, by the time they had all that added in it was the same price as any other campground. We didn't stay at KOA because of that reason until they changed to straight fees like everyone else but if you looked at there site, they were cheaper than anybody else for base price.

I get why they want to have a "Base Price" but they should also be very clear and up front about all the fees (if any). Nothing worse then expecting one price and then finding out after the fact that it is a whole different price (beyond the customary taxes).

Cell Phones, Tires, Cable/satellite companies, Hotels, and of course, as seen on TV items. They are all the same
- "Just $9.99" plus process/handling fees
- "Second one FREE" plus additional process/handling fees

It's all the same. Sales pitch on TV or hotel room. Savvy consumers will pay attention, not so savvy consumers will pay. Sadly the savvy ones have usually been taken advantage of in the past which is how they got savvy in the first place.

Instead of resort fees if this to combat some of the throw away room issues. Charge one night stay even if cancelled if they have magic bands already sent etc. People that do that anyway are just being thieves anyway.

Some people do cancel within the 30 days so I think this would just encourage people to NOT cancel. I think he Fort should go to a 2 night minimum at all times. This will discourage the 1 night throwaway reservations. They can then open it 5 days before for the single nights available and let the throwaways fight over our (campers) scraps instead of us (campers) having to fight over theirs.

That's an interesting idea. It could even go as far out as 2 weeks. At that point, typically speaking, those folks who are truly looking to come to the Fort have almost certainly firmed up their reservations so it wouldn't be an issue. This too would still discourage the "Throw-away" sites particularly for those who just want to be able to do FP+ and then cancel reservation in the end. There are still those who will do a 1 day throw-away (and pay for it too) but never step foot on the Fort. That will allow them to be able to do that as well without a significant impact to those who desire to actually stay at the Fort.

I would also add that if someone truly wanted a 1 day reservation outside of that, then it should be paid in full in advance with NO refund. (A change in date should probably be permissible though). Just my 2 cent.

WOW.... What a shock. I read your post (above this one) and saw that it was from 2001 but apparently when I started to read this post (quoted) I missed the ".... and this from 2001" and just saw the "Hi Folks:" and read on from there.

So I immediately went to my source to check ticket prices for our upcoming trip to avoid the increase (if possible) and a 4 day Hopper pass was $346.72 (before Taxes). Now I am like "WHAT!" since my source (through employer) has always been cheaper then I could get them anywhere else.... I finally went back and looked at the post again and that's when I saw the "...... and this from 2001". What a difference in price though!

The irony is, the cost of taking surveys could easily cover the activity fee: like school lunch form processing! Isn't the activity of 99% of guests to visit ticket requiring theme parks?
