New room option @ Pop?

Ok, sorry, this may not be "news" to anyone but me:laughing:.... but wondering about this as I've been pricing things out on and off for the past few months and this is a new one for me. I always see "Standard Room" and "preferrred room" but now I also see a "Preferred Pool View Room"??? Does that mean the map has changed as well as to which rooms are what? This kinda sucks, but I can see why Disney is trying to capitalize on it... they are a business after all.

Just wondering how new this is? And if all the resorts are doing this?

Just Pop is doing it, and they're capitalizing on Guest requests. A little over 44% of the preferred rooms at Pop face a pool, so about 55% don't. WDW has seemingly determined that the pool-facing rooms are of more (perceived) value to Guests, so they added another category.

Could be worse. Could be POR... with something approaching one category for every twenty rooms :rotfl2:

Haha personally I book preferred room at POP but always request to face AWAY from the pool! I dont like facing the pool, it is too noisy. We faced the bowling pin pool twice and it wasnt too bad but it is noticeable through the door late at night and early in the morning.

As much as I loved the proximity to the food court and buses, I would NEVER stay in a pool facing room again (at least not the primary pool). In fact, I am taking a gamble at staying in a standard room just to be sure that I don't get one of those pool facing rooms. If you haven't stayed before - be warned! It is LOUD LOUD LOUD all night long! It's certainly not the end of the world, but in August when it is hot straight through the night, lots of people take advantage of the pool. We look forward to whatever remote room we get next time - and we're pocketing the $226 :rotfl2:

Have to agree with this. We stayed at Pop one night at the start of our trip in 2008 and had pool facing preferred. Never again. I am a light sleeper so it just wasn't a good plan for us.
If we were to stay there again, I'd happily take standard or non-pool facing preferred.

Yes that is new for 2012. Along with the fact that a standard room at pop is 5.00 more a night over the allstars now.

Ugh.... capitalism at it's best...

Annoying to a consumer, but it makes sense. We'd do it to if we were in their shoes.

Is there a new map somewhere showing Preferred, Pool-facing preferred and Non Preferred room locations?

Probably not, but the existing maps should work fine. Rooms outlined in yellow facing a pool would be 'pool preferred', rooms outlined in yellow not facing a pool would be 'plain old' preferred, and existing standard rooms would stay that way. I don't think theyre going to change any geographic room designations or add any pools, but I've been wrong before.

Anything new to charge more money. I wouldn't do either of them. Pool views are always very noisy at night when you're trying to get to sleep. I always ask for a room looking at hourglass lake - the view is much better than the pool view. Also, if you get the right room, you can see the fireworks at night if you want to.:surfweb:

Me too. I requested a view of the lake so we can hopefully see some the fireworks. I don't want to be trying to get my kids and or myself to go to sleep while having to listen to people in the pool.

Be more specific. Request building two or three (possibly four). No Preferred room faces the lake, and no other Standard room Lois toward Epcot. On the other hand, first stop and think realistically how many nights you're really going to be at Pop at 9 PM, leaning on the railing watching Illuminations.
