I was reading the Ultimate Guide to Walt Disney World last night and they brought up an interesting comparison of Islands of Adventure vs. the Magic Kingdom. Very similary ride options and layout of the parks in the sense there are 6 lands at IOA and 7 in MK. However, one thing that was noticibly different is the fact that the MK has not had a modern SuperHeadliner Attraction open up since Splash Mountain in 1988. And the last Roller Coaster in the MK was Big Thunder Mountain in 1980.

Has anyone heard any rumors of a new Thrill ride/roller coaster in the MK or does that park already have enough attendance that they will not add more attractions until they bring up the attendance at other parks such as they are doing with Expedition Everest in Animal Kingdom? Epcot's Future World has some cool new attractions in the last few years and Soarin' this year, but World Showcase could use a headliner ride as well. All they have are two boat rides and Malestrom is nothing to get too excited about let alone the Mexico ride...

Thoughts???

On another site (forget which one) I read a rumour of the Epcot globe & ride (whatever it is) being replaced with a "dark coaster". Not sure if this has a shred of truth to it though - would be interesting to find out.

Funny rumor I heard.... Expedition Everest was originally going to be in the Asian are of the WS and was to be called "Mt. Fuji," upon hearing this, Kodak threatened to pull they're sponsorship (Fuji Film is a major competetior), so they moved it to AK and called it Expedition Everest! Don't know if it's true, but it makes for a funny story!

I think the story about Spaceship Earth is just that "a story". The ride track to that attraction is built into the infrastruction and the entire building would have to come down to support a coaster.

No plans for any type of "super coaster" in either MK or Epcot. The new coaster will be in AK.
