I really am not sure if this is in the right place, and if a moderator can find a better spot, please move it to the proper board. I guess this question would be more for the Florida "locals". When you come off of route 27 going south, and get onto route 192, about halfway from there to WDW, there is a new road and a bridge being constructed, {the bridge will pass over 192} and the road looks like it is heading towards the AKL which is right in the path of the new road {unless it veers off rather suddenly} Anyone know what the road is and where it is headed?

According to what I scrounged up in Google, you will have the choice of using that new 192 interchange just east of Orange Lake, proceeding north on the new expressway about two miles paying a toll, and entering WDW via a new western access road going around Animal Kingdom Lodge and Animal Kingdom that will take you to Buena Vista Drive near or at Blizzard Beach.

We stayed at the Wyndham Palms in Kissimmee and on my runs I noticed some contruction to the northwest of the resort also. Would be nice to see an alternative to 192 when coming from Kissimmee. After the lame traffice on this trip, I'll be passing up on anything in Kissimmee and going back to I-Drive.

Thanks folks, I knew I'd get an answer here!

If you are quite far east on 192 you can leave 192 getting on 535 and then get on Osceola Parkway (toll).

If you are not that far east there are a few other places on 192 you can jog right over to Osceola, Poinciana Blvd. and Seralago Blvd. are a few.

^ We were off Old Lake Wilson Rd, about 1.5 miles off 192. I'll have to look at more detailed maps, but I never noticed any through streets between our resort and 192.

Florida's Turnpike Enterprise and the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority are building a new north-south toll expressway near the western edge of Walt Disney World. It's State Road 429, the Western Beltway. Much of it is aleady open.

Disney is spending $50 million to build Western Way, a private road connecting the Western Beltway to West Buena Vista Road (near Disney's Coronado Springs Resort).

This will be a major new entrance to Walt Disney World.

I found this site about Western Way: http://www.danielgunter.com/westernway.htm

West of World Drive (Main Gate) on 192 the last entrance to Disney is currently Sherberth Rd. in line with the Holiday Inn (sitting on the north side of 192) and Shoney's Restaurant (good buffet next to Golden Corral also a good buffet) sitting on the south side. Sherberth connects with Osceola Parkway. There are no other connections from Osceola to the outside world on the west side, although Osceola if projected past Animal Kingdom Lodge would run right into 192. Western Way will be the new westernmost entrance to Disney.

So according to some of the links in this thread 429 is open to 192??

So instead of getting off of the FL turnpike at Clermont and taking 27S, I can continue to 429 and take it to 192, then drive a short distance on 192 to World Drive??

Thanks,

Carol

This opened recently, so I took it last week just to check it out. Yes you can take the turnpike to 429 South and it currently ends at 192. Then it is just about 2 miles to World Drive. They are working on the I-4 connection, it is supposed to be done later this year.

Here is the press release on the Florida's Turnpike website:
DANIEL WEBSTER WESTERN BELTWAY (TOLL 429)
OPENS TO TRAFFIC BETWEEN NEW INDEPENDENCE PARKWAY AND US 192, FRIDAY, DECEMBER 23

OCOEE, FL (Thursday, December 22, 2005)—At 5 p.m., FRIDAY, December 23, the Turnpike will open a five-mile section of Toll 429—the Daniel Webster Western Beltway—to traffic between US 192 and Seidel Road, three months ahead of schedule. Concurrently, the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority will open the section between Seidel Road and the New Independence Parkway interchange. On December 16, the Expressway Authority opened the section between New Independence Parkway and CR 535.

Wrapping the project up before the holiday weekend, the newly opened sections of the Western Beltway provide an additional fourteen miles of roadway looping around western Orange County. The Western Beltway provides alternatives to motorists wishing to avoid the Interstate 4 and US 192 tourist corridors, while providing easy access to the Turnpike mainline, Toll 408 (the East/West Expressway), US 27 and CR 545.

The Seidel Road interchange will open to traffic in February, while the Western Way interchange is scheduled to open in April.

Motorists entering the Western Beltway northbound or exiting southbound at US 192 (Exit 6) will pay a one-dollar toll.

The five-mile section of the Western Beltway between US 192 and Interstate 4 in Osceola County will open to traffic on December 7, 2006.
So it looks like a chunk of it is open now, with the rest being completed by year-end.

Going To WDW Late Spring 2006. Will The New Western Entrance To WDW Be Open? Am I Correct In Thinking That Sr 429 Is Open From The Florida Turnpike To 192 Open Now? WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN MILEAGE USING SR 429 VS TURNPIKE TO I-4?

We departed from WDW via the new 429---we took it from near the Orange Lake Publix on 192 north to the Fl Tpk-----seemed to be faster than 27 north with all the development that has occured there---its our new route in and out

OK, I don't quite get it. We normally take the turnpike going south. We get off onto Rt27, which goes to 192, which we then take the rest of the way to Disney. Where does this new road begin? {I hate maps, I don't understand them either!}

Coming south on Florida's turnpike you would skip the Rte. 27 interchange and keep on going. The new Route 429 interchange is in the Winter Garden area, I don't have the map at my fingertips this instant.

You would get off 429 onto 192 after passing the incomplete Disney west entrance interchange.

Thanks for the link, Horace Horsecollar! Looks like 429 is going to be my new route into WDW. From those maps, it looks pretty much like a bypass of all the over-development in the area, so you can either use it to get to WDW (in conjunction with the Western Way) without having to use I-4, or use it to go due south of Orlando and re-join I-4 past the heavily developed areas. Very nice. :thumbsup2

We just took the new 429 this weekend down to 192. It is great!! As other posters have stated, don't take the Hwy 27 exit at Clermont, keep going on the Turnpike. You will pass a tollbooth on the Turnpike with a $2.50 toll, then the 429S exit will come up shortly. Right now you follow 429 till it dead ends onto 192, then you go East on 192 to World Drive. There are 2, $1.00 toll booths. Right now this route cuts about 10 miles off of the Hwy 27 Route, but cuts about 1/2 hour off of our time.

In a few months the Western Way exit will be open, and you can also skip going on 192. The signs will be quite obvious and say Disney World. (We saw a stack of them on a Truck on the way home Sunday morning.) There is also a Disney Archway just like the one on World Drive!!
