Hi all, it’s been 9 years since my last trip and I felt old then. I did ride most of the thrill rides and nothing really bothered me. A few years ago, I had a bad bout with BPPV. I’m 69 healthy and very mobile. I’m just a little worried about riding Cosmic Rewind and a few others at my age and with the prior dizziness. Any thoughts or comments? My trip is in 2 weeks. Taking my 5y/o granddaughter on her first trip. I’m not sure how brave she is. BTW-never ridden Mission Space and not going to!!!!

I think it is more a personal affinity or dislike for thrill rides than it is a matter of age. I'm 63 and dislike the same knock me around rides as I did when I was in my 20's. I can't (and won't) ride Space Mtn (did so twice and it's one of those unforgettable in a bad way memories), Tower of Terror (experienced it 1 time and will NEVER do so again) - and so as much as I would love to experience rides like Rise, Tron, etc - I will not put myself through that. Every few years I'll ride Thunder Mtn, Tiana, 7 dwarfs etc - because I'm able to position myself in such a way that I can support my body from whipping movement. I see "old" people ride all these rides without any issues. For me, it has been and will be an issue. It would be hard for me to judge what others would like or dislike - dizziness isn't as much of an issue as sudden movements are. Being vertically challenged (about 5 ft tall) it's hard to use my legs to position myself without eventually sliding down on a seat.
What I'm basically saying is if these rides didn't bother you before, they may not bother you now. Or... they may. I'd rather be safe than sorry - my brother - who is in his late 50's decided to ride Rise because he loves rides like that. He reported being sick for almost 48 hours with vertigo he'd never had. He thought it was the visual part more than anything but either way it's not something I'd want to try.

I'm 68 and I enjoy Cosmic Rewind but I've never really had an issue with vertigo or motion sickness...occasionally just a wee bit of queasiness for a minute or two. It's a pretty extreme ride, motion-wise--kinda like every direction all at once. If it's just you and your granddaughter, I'd be concerned about you becoming ill and no one else to help with her (if she's brave enough and tall enough!).

on that note, how intense if Tianna? I'm more worried about the 'thrill' issue. We don't like rollercoasters but I can do Rise, Mission Space, and that kind of thing.

My daughter is going too. We can swap off looking after the grand. She’s a tall 5 y/o. My DD actually is prone to having a full blown panic attack before she gets on a new ride. 🤣 She rode TOT as an 8 y/o and swore off ever riding it again. I took her to WDW for her 25th birthday and she stood in front of TOT for 30 minutes and wouldn’t ride it. Then as soon as we got out of the park, she says “i wish we had ridden it” My husband did some trade shows in Orlando so we went back about a year later. We had Park Hoppers so late that afternoon, we head to HS. She’s like why? Because your going to ride TOT. Full blown meltdown in line. In the elevator, she turned white & I almost asked to get her out. She would not speak to me! After the drop, I say, that wasn’t so bad. She then says, “ but we haven’t done the big drop” Everyone in our elevator was in hysterics. Especially after they all witnessed the meltdown. She’s not going to be a good influence on the grand. But the little one is 100% a princess so that will be fun for her to meet her favorites. We wont push her to ride anything she doesn’t feel comfortable with. She’s watched POVs of most of the rides.

I’m planning to ride Rise for sure. I’ve ridden pretty much every thing at Islands / Universal.

I really want to ride Rise and Flight. I’ve ridden most everything at Universal & Islands. I do get headaches from too much 3D. They have a lot of 3D rides. I’ve ridden Forbidden Journey several times and it never bothered me. And I heard it makes lots of people sick. I think maybe I’m being age paranoid.

My wife and I are 71 and she gets motion sickness on some rides (Everest, Star Tours) but when we went this past August she had no issues on Guardians or Tron.
