New reservation with old MagicBands

Originally we were heading to the World last August. We had to cancel somewhat last-minute, and our MBs had already been shipped to us. We just rebooked for this May; our park passes are still in MDE, and everything is showing up there as it should including the new resort/dates. My question is (since I don't totally get how they do all this), since we already have the bands, how will they be linked to our new resort reservation?? Will they have to do something to them once we arrive? I have the option of ordering new ones (or not), but I'd just as soon use the ones we have, unless it might cause issues!

Thanks for any insight!

the bands are linked up to your my disney account not reservation or ticket, everything that is on your account your band reads and sorta becomes physical version of the my disney account if that makes sense

basically the band is alway sending out a signal reading what your account says you have like room key, tickets, and location, best thing to do though when checking in let the hotel know you wanna check the bands to make sure they open the door to your new resort which takes a few seconds at front desk!

also get the new ones too choose different color for everyone and have their names inside it its free! and the bands can be used interchangeable so one day someone wants their red the next day they can wear their red as long as they are connected to the persons my disney account or their profile where you assigned tickets too they will work as each band just reads what the account is saying about each guest

As long as you can see the August MagicBand in your MDE account it will work for everything - to open your resort room, to use for purchases and to use as a park ticket. You can order new bands or you can decline the new bands, depending on whether you want to get another color or if you want to keep it simple and just use one band. :)

I find that a second band is handy for swimming.

It's also handy if you lose one, like I have the last two trips. I lost one last year on Splash Mountain, and luckily I had my AP with me, or else I would not have been able to use/access the other FP I had for that day. Having a back-up and keeping it with you, whether it's another MagicBand or a hard ticket, is always a good idea in my opinion.

Thanks everyone! I feel much more informed now and starting to see how it all works. Never thought of getting the 2nd pair as a backup/different color, but I think we might do that! I had two on my last trip, but that was because it was a split stay, the whole band thing was new and they had to give us a separate band for each resort. I liked having one on each wrist, so it didn't matter which side of a turnstile I ended up on (well, it made it easier, at least). :upsidedow

We will each have 4 bands this trip that show as active on MDE. I love the fact that I can color-coordinate. Dh, not so much lol. He has all the same color.

I put the date on our name so we know how old the band is.

Will my bands from a few years ago still work? I thought I read somewhere they the life of the battery was only around 1 year. Ours are old - we were lucky enough to be in the group that tested them before they were released.

The battery is only necessary for ride photos and videos; it's not needed for park entry, hotel entry or using FP+.

Your MDE account will show any bands that are still active to use on your account. Just click on the Magic Bands section.
