New PtN strategy?

So the family and I may have stumbled upon a new PtN viewing strategy, at least I have not seen it discussed here.

We arrived at the parks on Sunday, and my in-laws joined us today, Tuesday. They are only staying til Thursday and came pretty much to see the 60th stuff and do a MHP. They wanted dinner at Wine Country today, so we were thinking no way we could get a good spot for PTN/DF. Sure enough we get to Disneyland around 7:15, parade route is packed. We go on Astroblasters, then see that IASW has a 20 minute wait, so we head over there, getting in line about 8:05.

While in line, I say, "why don't we just stay here in line where it turns to go over the bridge, we'd have a great view." No one agrees with me, they don't think the CMs would let us do that, so we get on the ride, and get off about 8:40, 5 minutes before the parade. We see they have stopped letting people on the ride and the queue is empty, so it looks like my family was right....

Or were they? We began looking for a spot, then overheard a cast member saying it was ok to watch from the IASW queue. So we rushed over and got front row along the rail right where the floats came out of the back! And then after the last float they had us file out of the queue and follow behind the parade until the tea cups, so we got to be in the parade for a bit!

That left us with a middling view for DF, right by the lighthouse by the storybook boats, but the PTN view was incredible, my in-laws were thrilled, and best of all we didn't have to camp hours for it!

So if you're looking for a potential way to get a good spot for PTN (but not DF) without waiting for three hours, try going on IASW, timing it so you get on the ride at about 25-30 minutes to show. We may have just lucked out with the timing, but I'd be interested to hear if other people have done this, or what others think.

I think you lucked out, the only time I've watched the parade and fireworks from Small World was on the first night and they did not let anyone sit or stand inside/outside the queue of the ride. I haven't tried to watch it from there again though.

If you are in the Small World mall area stay there for the fireworks. The projections on the Small World facade are pretty amazing.

They usually chase people away from doing that during daytime parades. It's possible that during PTN the area is so packed that no one can get to the queue anyway, so they were more lenient. I wouldn't count on that as a reliable strategy.

I thought the ride kept running the last time I was there during the parade.

That is so funny you mentioned that because I thought the same thing! We found spots very near there a few weeks ago and I actually said to my cousin that we should have got in line and then just watched from the railing, which people ended up doing!!! It's the perfect spot!!!
