New Pricing System

I just hung up with Disney Reservations and was advised that the rates for rooms AND packages won't be out until late July early August at the latest

Not to my liking but what can you do. Higher prices for weekend, split seasons between value and regular, you pay each level however your stay lands. Getting to be like DVC, double points for the weekends, people who would stay 7 nights and longer would stay through the week at a DVC resort then check out for the weekend and stay value, then check back in on Monday to finish their stay, real hassle but a money saver. We're going to have to rethink and plan our next WDW stay.

I agree, it is aweful, disney cost enough as it is, but like you said what can you do after all its disney

In looking on-line this afternoon for a stay in December I noticed that it now breaks down the room cost per day and lists it as
~~Thursday $185
~~Friday $185
~~Saturday $185

So it does indeed look as if they are setting the system up for the new pricing schedule.

I wish we could go ahead and start getting the package rates now instead of waiting unit august. I hope it won't be too bad on the pocket book.

I am wondering if they are doing this to deter people from not using thier DVC points on the weekends? I know it sounds like a crazy thing but when you think of all the DVC rooms they are building, the money adds up that they are loosing. So by making it a policy that all the rates are higher on the weekend, it will prevent the switching from taking place. Just a thought, then again, some resorts do charge higher rates on the weekends. The way Disney is getting, I am really starting to think (I go often living less than 3 hours away), I may be staying off site more than onsite in the future and I really wasn't wanting to it to come to that... but looks like it might :sad2:

No it's not the DVC folks arriving early its the Florida residents who come in for the long weekends and get the Florida resident discount, followed by the CMs who like to visit the resorts to take advantage of their discounts on the weekends and possibility the families and friends of CMs who visit on the weekends because they want to visit their kids on the college program/plus get to use that CM discount for friends and family of CM. And lets not forget the annual passholders that like to come in for a long weekend too. I'm sure these groups use the resorts on the weekends much more than DVC members do when arriving the night before they need to check in. Disney knows this is when the resorts stay full, so they just want to charge more money for them. Of course this is still in the rumor stage, so we will be waiting to see what happens next. Doesn't universal charge more for the weekends for HRH, PBR, RPR? Last time I stayed there I noticed that they did.

I'm not so worried about the proposed rate changes as I am for possible changes in policy regarding early checkout or modifying a ressie to include less days. For instance right now if you book 7 nights to get a certain resort to "show up" on the website you can call DRC to have it modified to a less lengthy stay. Perhaps we'll now be told you MUST stay 7 nights to get the ressie or be charged an early check out fee. It would fiscally make sense for them to do so, so it might be happening. Guess we'll have to wait and see. ---Kathy

Or, another theory, they might tie the weekend rates into longer trips. For example, if you are staying 10 days, your weekend rates might not be as high as someone staying 4 days, just over the weekend. So you might be told that if you don't meet minimum stay requirements your rate will change.

Of course, we won't know until the rates actually come out and people start booking.

Last year the package prices came out August 6. And their was a price increase on the packages, tickets and DDP. But in your package, you received 1 round of putt putt golf, buy 60 minutes of a seaway and get 30 more free and a $15 voucher for Planet Hollywood. We didn't use any of them.
