I notice there is an icon (open envelope) to indicate there are new posts to a thread.
New Posts since when?

Since the last time that you logged on to the DIS. There is a time period (I'm not sure how long, maybe 20 minutes) that if you leave and come back, it is considered one visit and the envelopes don't get reset. This will mean that it is possible that they will show that you haven't read a thread, when actually you have.
