New Poly room views?

Making that labour day deal in a Poly standard room harder to come by.
This is actually the very first thing that came to my mind when I read this was going forward. Maybe we'll get into DVC and book a trip with points in the future.

That does stink if true. We stayed there last year and our first room was terrible! It was damp/dirty and looked down the hallway of another building. There was no sun ever, just all around bad. That was one night. They moved us (surprisingly no screaming or kicking was involved) just a statement about the room. We would take any other room available. We got a pool view in Somoa. Yes it made a world of difference in the vacation experience. Would it have been worth an extra 1k for our 9 night stay...uhm no! I would however would have wanted to change to POR if we had to keep our original room. I am surprised it has taken this long to get a pool view although I think most rooms have some kind of view. Few rooms could have been as a bad as our first one or Poly would not have the rep it has.

Disney is a for-profit company, and the GM of the Poly is held to a goal for his/her P&L. Maybe if they can make some P&L on water view rooms they can hire more Mousekeeping. That would be a net gain for everyone.

You could give them all the money in the world and the Mousekeeping budget wouldn't go up.

I don't think so. TAs may still be able to 'find' you a standard room. Or Disney may release more 'standard' rooms knowing that they will be giving someone in standard view a better category. Disney wants to fill their hotels and they're not going to let those higher priced rooms go unsold.

The first rooms to go are usually the cheapest rooms. Either book early or sit back and wait for Disney to release more standard room prices. If people book the higher prices, that's their decision.

Does that happen? I mean, does Disney do this on a regular basis as a standard practice?

I booked a standard view at YC and got a view of the garbage dump. I did go down to front desk and politely requested a different room. I don't feel I got what I paid for. I don't mind standard view, but I'm not paying $$$ to look over a garbage dump, or smell it. Gross. The standard view I was given next was a lot nicer.
In this instance, I have to totally agree. If you were paying $50 bucks a night and faced a garbage dump--oh well. But, when you pay $300 or $400+ for a Standard View at Disney, they really should be able to conceal such a thing--I mean facing a road or parking lot is one this, but really!

I'm speculating, but they've got to fill those rooms somehow. Several times I have asked a TA to find me a room that wasn't showing and got a 'let's see what I can do'. Also, I always book standard rooms and more often than not, I have gotten a better view.

Is this effective immediately? I am just wondering if I should change my Samoa room request to gardenside Aotearoa (did I spell that correctly?) or Rarotonga.

I think this must have been the worst view in YC. Not to mention I'd probably be hearing the garbage trucks picking up too. I didn't stick around long enough to find out!! One look in the room and I was down at the desk.
I think because I was an early check in they just gave me a room that was empty. I can see why. Even though I didn't check the room ready box with online check in. I don't mind waiting. I just wanted to dump my luggage at Bell service and go to the parks.

We did the Labor Day deal at the Poly in 2015. It was standard and I request Fiji - Marina view and got it. I wondered why they didn't upcharge for that view. Seemed odd to me. So I'm not surprised they are changing the category. It actually makes sense to me.

My confusion at this point - if this pricing starts before my trip, what happens? I booked a standard view, will they now open up the new room category? What if they have too many standard view reservations to fit into the teeny/tiny window of standard rooms now?

All of these longhouses are now marina/pool view - Fiji, Samoa, Niue and Rarotonga. What the heck is left for standard?

And if I requested Niue and they put me there, will I be charged for the pool views?

It just sucks. I booked thinking I had a chance to get a good standard view and requested Niue, now I don't have a shot unless I want to drop another $1000. And I don't care if they have every right to do it.

Back to Yacht/Beach for next trip.

You will get what you pay for at least, and many times you get sprinkled with magic and end up with an upgrade. We do at least 75% of the time, and we come to Disney around 32-50 nights a year.

I've stayed at the Poly a couple times in Samoa, I loved how close it was to the pools, sometimes the view was good and sometimes it was just a view of a palm tree right in front of the window! Even when we had a view of the pool it was mostly a view of foliage where you could see a small part of the pool and that was before they put the fencing around the pool, at a $100 more a night I wouldn't pay that for the same view again. It was nice, yes but not worth an up charge over a traditional garden view.

I think in the long run even though people here might not be willing to pay the upcharge, people in general probably will pay the upcharge and if they don't the hotel will "upgrade" people into those rooms if they need to. However, I highly doubt they'd add a category and charge more for it if they didn't think they could easily fill those rooms.

What I paid for included Samoa, Fiji and Niue as options. Now it doesn't. :)

Also, extra adult charge going up $10 (I think everywhere) and they are thinking of making guests of resort pay for parking.

Are Samoa and Fiji still standard / meaning the sides that face the quiet pool of Samoa and the side that doesn't face the marina for Fiji?

I think the side of Fiji that doesn't face the Marina. It seems Samoa is completely pool views now.
