New Poly room views?

Right, we can't fully expect to know all the details until they are released. I'm keeping that it mind.

Sorry, not everyone "demands" a particular view. Most people request. There's a difference. And I do think it's a cash grab. Why not lower the rates of undesirable rooms rather than raise the rates of what once was a standard view of pool, marina, puddle?
You're correct, why should someone pay the same for parking lot view as a pool view. But instead of lowering the cost of parking lot view they are charging more for pool. Sounds like a cash grab to me.

I would argue that the Standard view is already priced for the parking lot views. If they have discovered that some of the standard views are worth so much more to people that they are at the front desk screaming for them, then why shouldn't they charge more for them?

Rumor - new views to be Samoa - pool/marina view and Fiji to be marina view, both about $100 or so more a night. Pay $900 more so I can see the marina? No thanks. :)

So, what is that, like 50 reservations?

No word about Niue. ;)

(still weird to me that people think it's silly to find this annoying. I don't know about you, but I'm never happy when prices are raised for the reason that people like something)

High demand, inelastic supply. Basic econ, required for all first-year finance majors at even the shadiest institutions of higher learning. I don't think anyone has said it's silly to find it annoying, but it's kind of in the category of "this shouldn't surprise you and it's probably not worth twisting your gears about."

I wish you would stop assuming I'm not smart enough to understand WHY it's happening, but thanks for the shade. :)

Anyways all, enjoy your trips. Perhaps I'll join back in this discussion when we decide where we are staying in 2021. Can't wait to see the prices then!

We will agree to disagree! I don't know why people are putting negative wording in- screaming, demanding, etc. Most folks just patiently REQUEST. $100/night more "screams" cash grab to me.

Agreed!

I don't understand where this phrase "Cash Grab" is coming in. All hotels, Disney or otherwise, are priced by demand. If a hotel or a room is more in demand, they charge more. If people aren't willing to pay that, then they lower the prices. They have every right to charge whatever they want. You don't have to stay there. There's a reason I haven't stayed at the Poly since 2007 after decades of being a Poly regular. I didn't get upset at them for charging more. It seems to me that people think they are somehow entitled to certain things and bristle when the price goes up. Staying at the Poly, even in a standard room is a LUXURY.

Who's gears are crooked now? Or twisted... :p First I don't understand, now it's inferred I'm entitled.

You are a clearly better person than some of us. I do bristle when the price of something goes up. Should I thank them instead? And strange as it may seem, I'm not really upset, as I don't live for trips to Disney World. It's just topical right now as I am staying at Poly soon.

My comments weren't directed at a particular person. I wasn't even replying to your comment. I'm not thrilled that I can't afford the Poly anymore, but I don't think that Disney owes it to me to cater to my budget.

Of course they don't owe it to me. But I don't have to like it! :D

okay, goodnight. :)

I understand what it all means.

I still think it's a raw deal for those who used to be able to get those views when booking standard views and now can't.
I'm just starting to agree that Disney is getting ridiculous in trying to find new ways to charge people for things that they weren't charged for before. (yes, I know we paid for our rooms...but now something has been taken away)

And I'm sure you did see desk tantrums. I wouldn't know as I rarely go to the front desk.

WHile I think that it is getting extremely expensive to stay in a WDW resort, the Poly in particular, I think guest behavior is part of the driver when it comes to up pricing views. I read here about the specific requests folks make in order to gain the best view for the least amount, and some of their own accounts of what they have done when the request was not granted. Disney often will either charge for what was a free little perk or completely take it away when the behaviors from guests become more than they want to deal with. I think they should just tell these unruly people to knock it off, but Disney seldom will.

That's not what is being discussed. Of course you shouldn't request a view you didn't pay for.

Right now you can book a standard view and request Samona with a view of the pool because that is included in the standard views.
Now since it is highly requested (and other reasons), Disney might be changing those views to Water view and therefore charging more money. It will no longer be available to those paying for standard views. That's what I think stinks.

Can you imagine some folks who still cannot understand tha connecting rooms is not a guarantee, when they find their Samoa request is now Aotearoa? Facing the monorail? REgardless that this is my DD and SIL favorite longhouse, others would be pitching a fit.

I can't never in a million years, imagine pitching such a fit because I didn't get the room I requested.

Believe it.

I'm sad, but I don't blame Disney for changing their room categories, particularly in Samoa. It's a money maker for them. But people who pitch a fit over room assignment are going to pitch a fit no matter what. I don't think changing the room categories at resorts is going to cure that. Now, it will just shift......

"I wanted the room in Rarotonga closest to the GCH, not the room furthest away!!!" :scared:

I imagine that the standard room views will most likely be in Rarotonga, Aotearoa and Tuvalu only. That will be quite the number of the standard rooms cut sharply.

I don't think a lot of people are going to book marina view at $100 per night extra. This just gets Disney off the hook if you pay for standard and don't get a marina view. I'm sure people will still book standard and get upgraded for free to a better view. This makes the person happy and Disney look good, as opposed to having a marina view as part of the standard price and *not* getting it. That makes the person unhappy and think Disney didn't listen to their request.

Just keep booking the cheaper view and if you get a better view, it is lucky. I do this all the time.

I am actually surprised this didn't happen when the DVC was opened. Pulling all the Lagoon Views that were in Moorea (and the handful in Tokelau) seriously shifted what was bookable on the resort side. Almost every other resort classifies views like those in Fiji and Samoa at a premium rate, even Value resorts.

Disney is a for-profit company, and the GM of the Poly is held to a goal for his/her P&L. Maybe if they can make some P&L on water view rooms they can hire more Mousekeeping. That would be a net gain for everyone.

Making that labour day deal in a Poly standard room harder to come by.
