New Poly room views?

It's unreasonable to expect to book a standard view and then demand a specific room because you don't like the view. If you want a view, you book a room with a view. I booked a standard room at the Dolphin and had a horrible view and location. I didn't complain because I got what I paid for. Next time I stayed, I booked a fireworks view, and got what I paid for also.

Respectfully, I disagree. In my opinion, Disney is not doing this to save cast members from complaining guests. They are doing it because they saw a way to make more money. And they have every right to do so, but I can still think it stinks.

I don't even stay at Polynesian, this is only my second time. I just don't like the idea of it. I'm sure it has happened at other resorts and I wasn't aware of it. Just like guests who book Polynesian in the future won't be aware that a few months ago they could have gotten that view of the pool for a lot less (or at least a fighting chance). Besides, who's to say that now when they book a water view and get a pool, they won't be at the desk yelling they wanted lagoon?

This is so funny, watch they don't do anything like this when it actually happens!

I totally agree with you. I hate that this is happening. Pretty soon they'll charge extra if you want a balcony.
AK made Arusha Savanna more $$ than other savanna views because it was requested more often.
This is just another Disney price grab. Makes me sad. It was one of the things I liked about Poly, you could get a decent view without an upcharge. Standard views at this resort are enough $$$

I booked a standard view at YC and got a view of the garbage dump. I did go down to front desk and politely requested a different room. I don't feel I got what I paid for. I don't mind standard view, but I'm not paying $$$ to look over a garbage dump, or smell it. Gross. The standard view I was given next was a lot nicer.

Now since it is highly requested (and other reasons), Disney might be changing those views to Water view and therefore charging more money. It will no longer be available to those paying for standard views. That's what I think stinks.

When you book a standard view, you know that parking lot views are included in that category, so you should expect that you could get one of those when booking that view. If you don't like that possibility, then don't book a standard view. It's not reasonable to expect Disney to leave the less desirable standard views vacant.

If people are booking standard views because they want to be near the pool, then it makes sense for Disney to create that category, so that you can request what you want. Why should someone looking at a parking lot pay the same as someone who demands a pool view?

A lot of people are nice about room assignment. A lot of people aren't. And the issue becomes those who aren't.

I can see where making more categories would be better for managing guest expectations. With all the requesting, faxing, etc, it's got to be hard giving everyone what they want. By being more specific, guests know better what to expect, and Disney doesn't lose out because if they don't sell the more expensive categories, they can just open them up for sale as standard. They still sell the room and if the person gets a better than expected view, it's a win-win.

I think that's what they do now anyway. I usually book a standard view at all resorts and I usually end up in something a bit nicer. (WV, GV, etc). I think I got a parking lot view twice in all the years I've been booking (at BC and POFQ). And I didn't care.

That's so odd you keep mentioning Niue as I asked around and was told that's not one of the more requested longhouses due to it being small, no balconies...Fiji is quite popular for the marina view!

I covered my bases and my first request is Niue, West facing and second is Fiji - east facing!
So I'm sure I'll get the one you mentioned - backside view of Tuvalu! I won't yell at the front desk, promise!

We love Niue, 1st floor!! It's a great location and the patio is huge. I hope this longhouse keeps having a low request volume!

I also think a pool view should be a separate category. I detest being by the pool- it's noisy, and I have babies who nap. So a lagoon view is great, but I think combining those two into one generic waterview stinks!!!!!

I honestly believe that the pool view category did exist a while back, and I was surprised that Disney had not already reinstated this already. But the poster that stated about a balcony charged is probably right as well. I never really thought about that one, and to me personally, that sound pretty desperate on Disney's part. But yes, it could happen.

Sorry, not everyone "demands" a particular view. Most people request. There's a difference. And I do think it's a cash grab. Why not lower the rates of undesirable rooms rather than raise the rates of what once was a standard view of pool, marina, puddle?
You're correct, why should someone pay the same for parking lot view as a pool view. But instead of lowering the cost of parking lot view they are charging more for pool. Sounds like a cash grab to me.

I'm more curious to see 1) what the actual change is and 2) how they handle the "transition" period. Sort of surprised any new booking categories weren't introduced with the 2018 rates that were announced a few weeks ago. That's probably where the real challenge lies!
