Window opened today for new DVC Poly Members to make reservations. I was worried about existing DVC add-ons getting the extra week. I called right at 0800 and only had to wait about 30sec to speak to MS. Got 2 std rooms (requested but not guaranteed connecting, as discussed elsewhere) for the first week of Jan / Marathon w/e.
Woohoo!

I called at 9 and waited 40 mins- I had no idea it opened at 8!

Got what we wanted also- super excited for out stay! Zero regrets about this purchase- we are using the points for aulani in April, poly in aug and then vgc next april! After those trips our DVC has paid for itself.

Congratulations. Hope you have a great time. We have a cruise on spring break this year. RCCL not DCL, but there were a few days before the cruise and we had no problem getting the weekend before the cruise. So, we get to stay one of the first few weeks the rooms are open. I can't wait. We are in sub zero temps here in Michigan, and thinking about spring break is keeping me sane.

I am glad you are happy, but really, they do not guarantee connecting?

Glad you all got the reservations you wanted without problems. Good luck Davie Business that your rooms are connecting ones.

Congrats! We also booked two standard studios for four nights for marathon weekend in January. We had no wait this morning which was great. We are also hoping to get connecting rooms. I was worried after hearing about all the wait times last week. We are very excited to be going back for the marathon.

I wonder how they will set the priority for connecting rooms if they don't have enough to go around. First booked? Reservations with minors?

If it's like other room assignment operations they pretty much do what they want.

I lobbied DVC for a few years to standardize and publish a policy on room assignments and eventually gave up. The only info that I could get is that each resort does their own thing.

It shall be interesting how long it will take until the first posts come in that a family will never return to PVB because they didn't get their connecting studio request. I'd really hate to be taking that risk myself.

The good thing is that the points are so high there may be a lot of short stays so hopefully they will be able to accommodate just because people are in and out more frequently.

During busier seasons, I wonder if some families might find themselves with rooms in different buildings.

IMO, a request for connecting studios will be virtually guaranteed. My guess is that they will just assign rooms to those guests first. Since it is unlikely that everyone will want connecting rooms, it shouldn't be that hard to manage. I think some of us are over estimating the percentage of those requests and worrying for nothing.

If it does become a problem (and again, I do not think it will), DVC will fix it.

It's more likely that those requesting connecting studios will be disappointed if they also make other requests such as particular buildings, floors or locations. The assigner will just make sure they get connecting, and won't worry about also granting other requests. JMHO. YMMV.

I really hope you are right.

I believe Poly staff has a history of doing a great job with the

I agree with you that they should not have a problem working around the connecting requests. I believe this is how Poly has handled it in the past, request but not guaranteed and I don't believe there are many (if any) who have not received connecting Poly hotel rooms.

However, there is one area that results in a problem with this plan. Booking requires 2 different reservations. We already have one person who booked a standard view, immediately tried to book a second one and it went from available to no longer available. Fortunately, they were able to book a lake view, cancel the first standard view, book a 2nd lake view and put in the request for connecting.

I think they could easily make a small modification to allow a person to book 2 studios in a category for a single transaction. This simple change would eliminate some problems for popular 7/11 month windows when the resort is much harder to book.

IMO, it would be OK if that happens. Why should the system favor an owner who wants two rooms over an owner that wants one? It will only happen during very popular times. No different than getting shut out for BLT std view or AKV value at 11 months.

And maybe there was only one left when that person tried to book two rooms. No way for us to know.

There will always be members who do not get what they want. It's the nature of the system we bought.

Except it's still considered 1 room since other than if you get very very lucky you are unable to drop one of the sections without dropping both. But with 2 rooms you can drop one and still keep the other. It's a critical difference IMO.
