I booked Grand Floridian Cafe for lunch on Sunday, 12/01/2013. I made this ADR 10/25 (before the policy change). I tried to cancel with the My Disney Experience app on 11/30/13. It told me it was too late and I'd have to call. I called and a recording told me they were closed. So I called back the morning of 12/1. I was told that I would be charged $50 (5 ppl). I explained I made the res before the policy and rep said I wouldn't be charged. Well, I was!

What is worse, I cancelled a res to Via Napoli a couple of days before just a few hours before the res (we got into Be Our Guest and no way could make it to Via Napoli) and there was no mention of a charge (and indeed no charge).

Did you put down a cc guarantee when you booked it on 10/25?

If not, how were they able to charge you?

The card charged was linked to mydisneyexperience account. My confirmation has absolutely no mention of charging. Supposedly they are processing a refund.

I made all my adrs for our early May trip before the policy changed, I think on Nov 4th. I also have my credit card linked to MDE. Only the signature restaurants were listed as credit card guaranteed when I first made the adrs. I noticed last week that all my adrs now show a credit card guarantee! :confused3

I don't anticipate needing to cancel any of them, but I have all my email confirmations saved, just in case a mix up like the OP's happens.

Wow!

I was under the impression that if you booked your ADR's before the policy went into effect, then you would not be charged. :confused3

My ADR's CC guarentees were also messed up last week, but I looked on MDE today and it was corrected. The reservations I made before 11-19 didn't have the credit card guaranteed, but those made after 11-19 (and those that always had CC) did list the CC guarantee. This is on my computer, I'm not seeing any CC notes on the MDE mobile app.

As for getting charged incorrectly... :sad2:

So...apparently there was another conversation that wasn't mentioned in the original post, where you explained it and were told you would get a refund. Sounds good to me!

In Feb we cancelled BBB weeks before we left on the trip, but somewhere in there something wrong happened. We were charged $10. It was refunded. No big deal. It was wrong, it was corrected.

The question is....are you 100% sure that's what the charge was for? Our charge was complicated by the fact that it was for an appointment originally made the same day as our CRT lunch. Our CRT lunch involved a refund of the amount of the Tables in Wonderland discount, and then hours later (we found out through the rep on the phone) a refund was generated for the REST of the CRT amount.

So we originally thought that they did the TIW refund, then thought we hadn't showed up so refunded the rest, and THEN charged a one-person cancellation fee. It took a lot of figuring out and digging on the part of the various reps that helped me to work it through. (and despite lots of followup on my part, they were never able to recharge me for the rest of our CRT meal, which will bother me for forever)

So are you totally and completely sure it was for that?

Nope, they will charge you. We were just there last week and I got an email reminder of my ADR's or reservations a day or two before our time and each one said that I would be charged if I was a no show, or cancelled after the 24 hour window. I booked ours a long, long time ago.

This doesn't seem right.

If I'm staying off site, and I book let's say Beirgarten in September, for an ADR in December without a cc hold and I'm a no show, how can I be charged? :confused3

This thread got me thinking...so I just cancelled one of our lunch ADRs that I was worried about making. Our trip is in 2 weeks and I booked our ADRs a long time ago...well before the new policy went into affect. When I just cancelled Sanaa, the message that popped up said something about having to cancel 24 hours before the resie...so I did go ahead and cancel now. I figure we can do a walk in for Sanaa and may do it arrival night. I have another lunch ADR (at Via Napoli for 6) that we may not make...worried about that one...don't want to cancel and may wait until we're there on the trip.

If that is the case then the info here on the DIS is incorrect. There have been several threads/posts since the policy started saying that those that booked before the policy was in effect would not be charged. That is also what the phone CM's are supposed to be telling people that call. I'm not saying the DIS is always correct, but that is clearly different then what many of us were lead to believe.

It was also my understanding (from what I've read) that you would not be charged if you made your ADR before the cc cancellation came into effect.

Perhaps it's that if you have a cc linked to your MDE account, then you will get charged even if you made the reservation before the change - however, you can get the charge refunded for those reservations because it's not a valid penalty. I think the system is automatically charging it, hence so many "yes they are" posts, but since it's not a valid penalty, people are getting it refunded - it's just taking an extra (and I think, unnecessary) step to do so. I haven't seen anyone say they were charged in error and weren't able to get it refunded. Did I miss that somewhere?

Canceled our Via Napoli ADR the morning of (on 12/22) and did not get charged the fee...was told it was because we made the ADR before the policy change.

You won't be. I made most of my ADRs for my trip before a credit card was required. Even on my print out it showed which ADRs were credit card guaranteed and which ones were not. They didn't automatically guarantee them all.

It sounds as if the OP had a problem which has been fixed.

Did you call the cancellation line or regular dining line? They set up a special line when they started the cancellation policy fee.

It appears that if you have a credit card linked to your DMX account, you will be charged no matter when you made the reservation, because it is being done automatically.

It is then on you to have the charge reversed.

We cancelled a sci fi reservation the day of the reservation & we were not charged. It had been booked prior to the guarantee. We had our credit card linked to our magicband. This was in early Dec.

The Via Napoli we cancelled the day of...we had a CC linked on MDE and was not charged the cancellation fee.
