Hi. I've finally found you guys. We just got back from WDW, and with only 3 days left to our vacation, I finally learned enough from cast members and other collectors to fall head over heels over pins!!! I kept asking around "Is there anyplace I can go when I get home to Illinois, where I can keep up on the new pins and maybe buy or trade.?" The only answer I got was Ebay. Well, I have bought a pin there just a couple days ago (Mickey andMinnie trading pins, thought it was appropriate for me!) but it sure lacked the "good feeling" that I felt when buying them in Florida (no duh), but this place is exactly what I was looking for.
I've also found a couple other sites in which one can simply buy a pin, but I was looking for more than that. For example, I bought a couple pins in Florida in which I haven't seen anywhere on the websites. A TRUE trader approached me on our last day at Marketplace and she wanted it bad. It must be a good one. I also have a Tree of Life pin, which looks like an actual picture of the tree. I didn't remember seeing this one anywhere else, so I'm hoping that all you knowledgable collectors might know something about this pin. I also lucked into the Mickey Head Flag pin at Magic Kingdom and bought 4, (three of which I'm willing to trade for some of the pins I've run across on these many sites that I'm dying for.)
I also WANT soo bad, the new Monsters, Inc. pin which comes out tomorrow. It has the date on it and November 2 is my birthday, sweet huh?
This message is tooo long, but I must go for now and have been dying to get my story out!! Will check back later and I hope I will have some responses.

Wow, I get to be the first to say, in the words of Niegel Channing, "Welcome, Welcome, Welcome, Welcome and Welcome"......to the wonderful world of pins.
If that Tree of Life had some of the carved animals on it, then it might have been the CM 3rd AK anniversary pin.
As for info on new pins, the best site I've found is www.dizpins.com
There is also a site called www.pinpics.com which we are all addicted to. It is a database of disney pins (over 7,000 in the database so far) with pictures. After becoming a member, you can mark what pins you have, what pins you have for trade, and what pins you want. Then, if you wish the computer will match a pin you have that someone wants when they have a pin you want and start a trade via e-mail and snail mail.
Don't be afraid to ask questions, we all started this obsession at one time and are used to the questions. Above all else.....have fun!
Lastly, since you're in Ill, there is a contingent of pin traders around Chicago that get together every so often and trade pins. I think the last one was just before they closed the Chicago Disney Quest.

Hey, thank you so much for the Mousketeer welcome!! "Hey there, hi there, ho there, were as (something) as we can be" (I don't know :) ). Thanks for the Dizpins reference, the other two I've already checked out (sat in this chair for, hummm, let's see,say 6 hours last night!!) I just can't get enough. Too much fun.
The other two sites I have researched throughly. Very good sites of course, but, still nothing on the two pins in question. Like a dope, I have just NOW looked at the back of the tree pin (the tree is soo far away, it's hard to really see animals) and it says "Limited Edition of 5000" (which really isn't so limited when you consider some pins only 3500 are made), but it has no date though. Hey, this could be a new game or something, "Find Information on the Tree of Life Pin", oh well as Eeyore would say.
Now, I've just tried to take a picture of my Flag Head pin to post on Pinpics, and with 3.3 megapixels and a super closeup focus, it still photographs horribly. Maybe I should scan? Any tips? I'm not using a flash either, so that can't be the problem.
Thanks for the tip of trading in Chicago. What fun! I'll continue my searches and will NOW look for info on that!!

OK ( I hope I'm back in the right place, this doesn't look right in here. Why does it say Post Subject? Hummm I thought I was just replying. Oh well). OK, (cough, cough), HELP with all these initials. My husbands in the military and I thought THEY were initial happy. DLP? PTP ( wasn't that some illegal drug in the 80's)? Some I've gotten... DCA (Disney California Experience), but most just take too long to sit and try to figure out, so I just blindly go ahead and hope the gest of the material is obvious;)

Hi---

Post subject just means if you want to have a sentence in BOLD at the top of your post. It will appear next to whatever icon you choose.

Tree of Life Pin check out Pin 4000: Animal Kingdom Postcard on Pin Pics I did a search of "Tree of Life" on the search page.

Mickey heads: 2 are already listed

Pin 960: Mickey Ears US (United States) Flag
Pin 7562: DVC Mickey Flag US and there is also
Pin 286: Mickey America Flag I think you can call this one a Mickey Flag head! :D

Abbreviations!

DLP = Disneyland Paris
PTP = Pin Trader Pin

For more go here: http://www.dizpins.com/abbrev.htm

Hope this helps!!

Glad you found the board here and you can look forward to some fun trading online!

Yeah, right.:( If I could only figure out how to upload the pictures of my pins on Pin Pics. it keeps kicking it back at me (after I have to go with e-mail delivery), saying that it's too big. I don't know how to scan it any smaller. Everything I try doesn't work. Must get back at it:(

Thank you, thank you. I WILL figure out how to do this myself, but your help would be greatly appreciated untill then. Right now I believe I have a unique pin, but since I'm e-mailing, it says I need a more thorough description (!) please, and I am now looking through 200 pictures to see if they already have it. I'm almost at the bottom of their list and so far I have a new one. Must run. I may be in contact  Thanks again

 Hi, it's me again. Wellllll, there should be a picture on your front doorstep any moment now. Thanks for your assistance. :D

Welcom to the boards. Once you have been bitten by the pin bug it is too late. Have fue the DIS members will be happy to help you in any way possible. If there is a pin you want just put it up on the boards and see how many of us will bite. Kris:wave:

Heidi Ho, New Pinpal!

I know several DIS members have already greeted you and welcomed you with open arms.

But, I think, perhaps no one has noticed something quite interesting you said in your original text:

A TRUE trader approached me on our last day at Marketplace and she wanted it bad. It must be a good one.

I am assuming this means you did not trade with this person? If so, it is possible that you may possess a very important quality . . . natural shark repellant!:D

As a new pin collector/trader, you may not be aware that the Marketplace is often inhabited by a certain breed of "true trader" that hangs about, waiting to pounce on the unsuspecting novice trader. :smooth:

On the other hand . . . If this "true trader" was very obvious about their lust for your pin, appeared to be speaking gibberish and drooling on your lanyard . . . You may have met a completely trustworthy pin addict, perhaps even a DIS member on vacation! :D ;)

So, what pin were they after? And did you trade? :D

Very good. I was wondering if my excitement at beeing able to look at ALL the Disney pins ever made for hours at a time (I think I'm delerious) was showing !!TThe frustration of trying to get my pins (and my want list) up on that PinPic site before someone else trades for just the pin I want and for a pin I have!! Pant, pant
Gee, I think after as much research (and drooling) that I've done the past few day I believe I can (almost) (not quite) call myself a :D True Trader. Yes that's right I've almost achived that level, that status!! No, really, a true trader knows her stuff, that's all I meant. You guys know what around, what's not, what's hard to come by, and most importantly, the excitement of getting that pin that's "JUST RIGHT". Yes, in fact I did indeed make a trade with the nice lady at the store. She wanted, first of all, my American Flag Mickey Head Pin. In which I promptly traded her for one I just listed on PinPic's. I know nothing about it yet, except that it's from 2000 WDW, which is when we went but I didn't collect. And yes ,with that first trade, I was hooked. I finally "got" what it was all about.
Now, about the second pin she wanted, no, I didn't trade with her. It was too overwhelming. She started whipping out these pin boxes from, God I don't know where she had them all. I really felt way out of my league. I looked at the (come to find out) Mickey 100 years of Magic Compass Pin I had and I just liked the way it looked and wanted to hang on to him. He's not that hard to come across anyway.
Anyway, enough about me...... I really do go on and on don't I
