New 'picnic' Dining Option at AK!

If the chicken is the same as used to be served at the (old) Tusker House cs, we'll definitely be eating it! I had us returning to our AKV for sandwiches on our AK day but this would be so much easier (since we only do a 3/4 day at AK anyway).

So where in the park would you go to eat your food?

Are people going to freak out if you take it down to the tables at one of the QS restaurants?

Do you have to eat it on a bench somewhere?

Can you spread a blanket down in the middle of the path ro Aisa? ;)

I know there are some nice away places (mostly I can just think of some on the path from Africa to Aisa), but are they all smoking areas?

If they don't start offering a two person meal, I hope there is a counter service place you can order the items ala carte. Those sandwiches look good. I really miss the old Tusker House. I don't really care for buffets and we don't normally do character meals.

I cannot wait to try this, it will be such a nice change. Also, if you look at the link on page two it shows you all the picnic spots. I do agree they need a lunch for 2. tThis is the first time it will not be just DH & I and I would be upset if we could not do this.

I may have missed it, but at the picnic spots is there tables? I would think so.

I am not sure,it seems ok,but I would need a review if its any good. I would do it if made fresh just before pick up,but not one made in the morning and kept cold. If it were Cold cut sandwiches, water and a side for $25, would need to be really good for me to bother(and not just bring the same for $10).Plus my 3 and 1 yo wouldnt need a whole sandwich, probably just eat some of a side and fruit.

Ill be watching for a review.

There are so many random seating areas in AK; it's about time to make some use of them! :-)

Also, this is great, but what if you only have one or two people?!? The allears description only gives options for three or more.

So where in the park would you go to eat your food?

I can think of some wonderful places to have a picnic:

- Any secluded path around the Tree of Life!

- On a bench on the path to the Conservation Station at Rafiki's Planet Watch.
- On a bench on the walkway to Camp Minnie-Mickey
- Outside the old Pocahontas show at Camp Minnie-Mickey
- At a table outside of the exit to Dinosaur
- In Asia along the waterfront (across from the Yak and Yeti)

And the best place of all would be at one of the decks on the path between Africa and Asia, with the Tree of Life across the water from you.

I can close my eyes right now and imagine that I'm at one of those places.

This is awesome! The picnic idea is actually part of my touring plan for both MK and AK. I'm planning to get sandwiches at Main St Bakery, and I was considering TamuTamu Refreshments in Africa - but I wasn't sure if they're still operating, and I didn't know when they opened. This is so much better!

DH and I are also only a party of 2, but here's then plan that I think will work well for us. Get to AK in the morning and order a 3 person Tier 2 picnic lunch. Do our thing in the park, pick up our picninc lunch and eat what we want in the picnic area. Then head back to the resort (DH likes to go back every afternoon to swim and/or nap) and put the leftovers in the fridge in our room for later.

Thank you so much for posting this! I love this idea. We are going to have a party of 5 or more during our trip in September...I think this is going to work great for us!

Saw this yesterday on another site and was waiting till I saw it here! I think that this is a great idea! It is my understanding that those on the dining plan would use one CS per person, per picnic person. A picnic of 4 people, would cost 4 CS. Don't think you can beat that with a stick!!!

Tier 1 is like $25.00 and Tier 2 is like $30.00. I believe each picnic meal will feed 3 people.

DH and I both thought this sounded like fun. I do like the idea of taking it back to the resort - then we could have a picnic on the beach!! If someone is able to try it soon please post and let us know what you thought.

So if I were to use my QS option on the DDP for the picnic would the kids have to use one of our adults QS or are they able to use their own ?

It says one adult entitlement per person the meal serves. How is this going to work out for people with kiddos? You're going to end up with unused child credits and not enough adult credits at the end of the trip. The price is not too bad, but I don't think its a good choice for people on the dining plan.

Keep in mind you have to stand in line to order this at least 2 hours before you want to eat it, hang on to your receipt, stand in another line to pick it up, and then schlep around to find a place to eat it. It may work for some people, but it would be a huge waste of time for us.

This will be great for us to use when AK closes at 5 as we can order it for the end of the day and take it out of the park with us to eat for dinner! Love that it comes all packaged in a cute reusable Mickey bag too!
