New 'picnic' Dining Option at AK!

I wonder if you can take it out of the park when you leave for later? We are having a late breakfast, Tusker House, at 10:45 but I could see us picking it up right before we leave and eating it by the pool later. The sandwhiches look really good and the price is good too.

This looks really cool! I'm wondering though how it works with the DDP. It says that it requires an Adult entitlement for each meal. If we only have two adults and three kids on the DDP, will they allow us to use 5 adult entitlements at one time?

it also says quick service...and as far as im concerned quick service really doesnt have to be adult or child

sounds cute!! Not worth it for us (DD is will be 2 next month) but could be a great "sharing" meal for many families!

Yes. I think this may be good for us. There are 4 of us, but me and my tween girls don't eat much. So I think we would do the 3 person option - 6 chicken pieces is enough for us! I'd probably do the mashed potatoes and corn side options. The dessert would be difficult to decide because I see the 4 of us disagreeing on that! I would want a brownie, but DH & younger DD would want the fruit. I hope you can mix and match. And the price seems good. (We are currently not doing the dining plan.) And if its the old, good chicken and mashed potatoes from Tusker House, I am all in!

I also like the idea of maybe being able to take it with you? I really wanted to try Yak & Yeti for lunch. But we could bring back the meal with us to the Beach Club villa and eat later by the pool.

Looks interesting. I hope they add a 2 person meal.

I am excited to try this, we are not to DDP and I thinkw e can split some things up to make it more cost effective. I didn't think the price was bad to begin with either!

I think it's a nice meal option!

I wonder what the reusable bag looks like?

Am I right in thinking that the whole family would have to pick the same thing (such as 4 chicken wraps, 4 mac & cheeses, 4 apples) or do you think that you'd be able to individually order your meal per person?

I'm looking forward to hearing from those who will try this meal soon.

If you look at the picture on the bottom of the link, it is in the background. I have one (from ebay), it is similar to the bags you get at the grocery store, but has a mickey in leaves w/ the quote on it.

I too wish it offered for two people, we'll just have to pass this one up. Even though the price is pretty good for 2 (compared to some places..not all), I just can't get it knowing I'll throw so much away. I'm funny that way

This is a cool idea - I love chicken on a picnic! We might do this on our trip to have a relaxing break in the day.

It would be nice if the cs location on Tom Sawyer's Island would offer the picnic lunch, too!

That is a cute bag! I agree that they should offer a package for 2 diners with 2 sandwiches.

I love this idea! The only "down" side I can see is....you line up to get into the park, than you line up to place your order at the podium (I wonder how long this line might be on busy days!!), than you have to line up to get the food later. If this program is done well & properly staffed, no big deal but otherwise, I can see lots of waiting!

We'll give it a try though! Two teens & two adults, good value!

Our Guests have experienced the restaurants at Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park. Now it’s time to take their adventure one step further with Picnic in the Park.
Starting Tuesday, April 7, Guests will be able to purchase a meal for the family packaged in the “Every Tree Has Character” reusable bag to take with them to one of many picnic spots throughout the Park. Plates and utensils are provided so that our Guests have everything they need for their picnic.
Meals include a choice of entrees, side dishes, desserts, and water. There are two tiers available for our Guests to select from:

· Tier 1 features a chicken wrap, ham grinder, tuna pita, or turkey focaccia sandwich.

· Tier 2 offers a choice of rotisserie chicken or ham.

· Guests may select from the following side dishes: chips, coleslaw, corn medley, green beans, macaroni & cheese, mashed potatoes & gravy, orzo pasta, oven-roasted potato wedges, seasonal fruit salad, and tomato & cucumber salad.

· Dessert options are an apple, orange, brownie, cookie, cornbread, or crisped rice treat.

· No modifications or substitutions are allowed.

· Guests with food allergies should alert the Cast Member when placing their order, who will then contact a chef to discuss the Guest’s needs.

Guests will be able to place an order at the Picnic in the Park podium located in front of Guest Relations at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, staffed 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. daily. After that time, or if the Guest has decided to get their picnic pack after they’ve ventured into the Park, they may go directly to the podium at Tusker House Restaurant to place their order. Pick-up time needs to be at least two hours from the time the order is placed, and Guests should bring their copy of the order form as confirmation. Payment is due upon pick-up of the order. The pick-up location is at Kusafiri Coffee Shop & Bakery.
If Guests are on the Disney Dining Plan, Picnic in the Park may be used as a Quick Service Meal (requires one adult entitlement per meal amount). For example, a meal for three will require three adult entitlements.

Sounds like fun!!!!

From what/where is this quoted?

Where did you get that info. from? Sounds like a really fun thing, but how much?

Sounds wonderful. I just wish they had started this last week when we were at the AK twice. It's our favorite park, but it can be difficult to get a meal there. This picnic idea would have been perfect for us.

I received this article in the allears weekly newsletter today. I am guessing that is where the OP was saw it also since the wording is the same.

They are selling those bags all over the place at Disney right now for $2.98 each. They are sturdy, shopping bag type, cloth, reusable bags. They are also really cute. :thumbsup2

As far as "adult" CS credits....:confused3 As far as we could tell, CS credits are still not tracked as adult vs. child, so it shouldn't make any difference if a family chooses to use it as a meal option. It would be the same as going to a CS place that didn't offer a child's meal. :goodvibes

It's a neat idea, for sure. I don't think it's a great use of dining plan credits, from a "value" standpoint, but if I were paying OOP for lunch at AK, this would certainly be a legitimate option.

I'd be inclined to pay OOP but not use QS credits on it. It ends up being $8.25 per person for the tier 1. Not worth it IMHO and the sides as pictured are single serve, so while the idea is good, and I would do this, I wouldn't use credits for it!
BTW--who thinks the picnic tables wil be all taken up by those who bring in their picnic from outside? We know how WDW doesn't like to rock the boat and actually enforce rules so it should be interesting!

That sounds great! Thanks for posting. I like the fact that it counts for a QS meal. Good value!
