Update from Screamscape.com

Downtown Disney & Pleasure Island News - (9/12/08) Screamscape sources have sent in some information about what we might see during Pleasure Island’s last nights. First off the Fireworks will return to PI for a special finale show on the 27th, though we’ve heard there is also a slight chance it could also happen on the 26th. We will see performances by Frankie and the West End Boys and Hip Kitty, some off-season special shows in the Adventure’s Club (Halloween & Christmas themed) plus we’ve heard that the AC’s night will end with a very special show where the story may give away a reason as to why the club is closing. I’ve also heard that there may be some kind of special show over at the Comedy Warehouse as well. Meanwhile look for lots of extra characters in the streets and special souvenir merchandise.
After that… turn off the lights on the way out because the party is over… unless you are a member of one of a few special private groups who have already booked the various venues (yes, Adventure’s Club too) for special private functions. Apparently the special event types still have some events scheduled for these locations through to Jan, 1st 2009. After that… crews will move in to start removing anything of value and prepare the site buildings for new owners or for demolition.
As for the buildings… we’ve heard that suits have been spotted walking the island with rolled blueprints lately, looking over the current BET, Adventure Club, Beach Club and Motion buildings. As for the buildings on the other side of the street (8-Trax, Mannequins) we’ve heard that there may be no set plans for those sights yet, which could possibly mean they could have a date with a wrecking ball in order to build up something entirely new

Nnooo Not The Rotating Floor!

Very interesting...thank you for posting the information.

It does make me sad to see PI close...I enjoyed going there during my college program, especially the CW.

amen. Had it not been for PI, my CP experience would have been VERY VERY different!

Thanks for the info!!! Looking forward to seeing the fireworks again!!!

If something is in the works, I wish they'd just be straight up with it. I hate surprises and suspense, even if the plans turn out to be something great.

Leaving a club to go see the fireworks may actually be a big mistake. The clubs will be at capacity and if you go out, you may not get back in.

That's a good point.... May have to rethink that idea... not sure how I could see both.
The way everyone is talking... there may not be room to breathe inside of the AC that night... I've also heard that the guests are exiting from the library directly outside, does anyone know if this is true?

Well that's a severe understatement!

So many memories... :)

...every once in a while I close my eyes and just imagine myself spinning on that dance floor once again....with the dry ice cannons on at full blast!

...okay, end of delusion (and no, I'm not psychotic) :)

I do the exact same thing when I'm dancing at the pathetic excuse for a dance floor in a bar here. Such a shame the memories will never be re-lived

Hey, MSP-MCO fare is just $84 each way on select flights outbound on the 26th, returning on the 28th! You COULD be here for the finale!

I found the rates, but it was still 500 dollars round trip for both of us. I ended up using priceline again and got hotel and flights with the times I wanted. I'm getting to orlando around 3pm friday and leaving at noon on Sunday.

So now the question is organizing my trip. This is partially an anniversary trip. I don't want to spend all day in a line on Saturday...not very romantic. My main goal is just to dance at Mannequins all night. I have said my goodbye to 8-trax and as much as I'd love to get in AC, it's just not gonna happen. CW if I'm extremely lucky. Do you think I'll be safe to show up to PI at 7 and be able to get into mannequins?

I need to get to the darn parks at least once so I'm thinking MK on saturday then PI at night if it will work out. I also need some kind of decent meal.

Thoughts?

Congrats on getting in on a last minute trip to O-town! Often times the most exciting trips are those unexpected ones with little time to plan.

If you're arriving Friday, you could do AC then, you know. You can see it if you really want to. Mannequins opens at 9pm although I hope they'll have extended hours on the last night. I really doubt you'll need to queue up at 7pm to get in though.

You'll need to introduce yourself; I'll be there with a friend on Friday night and with my wife for the big finale' on Saturday night! I usually stand at the far left entryway onto the dance floor. That's my SPOT....don't take it!! lol.

I also made the decision to make a last minute final trip.
I will check on travel plans tomorrow, and will be possibly leaving Thursday for one night.

Any idea what time I should head to PI to be assured entrance to the AC?

MG

I don't think the final Thursday will be that huge of a deal but it would be worthwhile to come early anyway so that if you want to see multiple AC shows and they're booting everyone out after each show, you'd have time to get back in line to do it again. But, this closing is something new and there is no way to know how bad it will be. We know CM's can't get in free that night; that will help. I think that final Saturday will be chaos.

It's looking like I'm gonna do Halloween horror nights Fri night after we get there, then maybe hit pulse after that. For sat it'll be up early and into MK. My friend is going to use his maingate to get us in since I used mine for the year already. Lunch at maybe LTT before they pull the characters out of it, and then on to PI. Hoping to catch CW show then Mannequins. I look forward to meeting you on Saturday! They better let me dance with my shirt off by the mirrors:lmao:

Caught this little bit - you mean dinner? No characters at LTT lunch, though they do have a might tasty lunch.

DH and I have made the decision to do FWF all day the 27th and then head to AC after. We get in, we get in, but the idea of the crowds and chaos is terrifying.

Just got home from AC, and was told that the club will be open 6pm to 2am on Friday and Saturday nights for the next 2 weeks.

Also was quite an interesting evening at PI, there was a power outage and PI was evacuated, and the Island was closed for about an hour before we were allowed to re-enter.
