So who going to take their little baby :dogdance::cat: to the new pet resort and dose this make you want to take your baby to disney if you never did before.:dog::dog2:

I'm actually going to go check out the opening tomorrow, but as of right now I don't see us utilizing it for two reasons, price and convenience. The prices are high in my book and I can use our regular kennel for a cheaper price (my dog really doesn't need a tv or a bed time story)...as far as convenience goes as a local we would sometimes use one of the kennels on property for the day if we knew we were going to be there for a long time and could drop him off at the gate before we walked in and picked him up as we left, but now we'd have to drive over to Port Orleans before and after we hit the park...just not really worth in it my opinion.

We have no plans to use this kennel for several reasons.

First, we love the pet hotel that is relatively local to us (non-chain) and our dog, Jessie, seems to be happy with their service. We like our dog to be in close in proximy to her vet...just in case. Jessie is getting older so we are trimming down on her long distance car trips plus she was abandoned as a young pup before we got to adopt her so she gets nervous about each rest area. We love how the management at her regular kennel of choice keep records, interactions, and how they do dog socialization with her.

Our current kennel of choice is about $29 a night plus it offers various doggy spa treatments and levels of grooming. :rolleyes1 We are using them in October for 1.5 weeks and almost 2 weeks in December.

Yeah with tv and bed time stories she never want to go back to her pet hotel or leave disney. My dog 10 and i couldn't put her in a kennel 1 she agressive and is on meds which my mom has to make her steak and chicken to give her so no kennel will go out and buy steak for my dog.

Thankfully she loves riding in the car she even knows how to drive. She sits on the driver lap put her paw on the wheel and steers and honks the horn sometimes. We try not to let her do it when we drive because it dangours and against the law. But when she is 30 pounds and aggresvie she get her way sometimes. If she needs to go into the car two people have to go one to hold her in the back. Because all we need is the police to drive next to us and all they see is my dog driving they will pull us over. She know better with me she know to sit in the pasanger seat because i wont put up with it as much as my parents do.

As a frequent FW guest I see a few issues with the new kennel in relation to FW guests. First of all, lets be honest, FW guests used the FW kennel more than guests not staying at FW. Guests of FW (RV guest...not cabin guests) are still much more likely to bring their pets to Orlando than guests at other disney resorts because

A) They drive rather than fly (For the most part)

B) You dog can stay in your camper with you, but not your hotel room

I have a travel trailer, but other FW guests come with Class A and C RV's that they drive to the FW, golf cart in tow. And there in lies the problem. You can't double tow a golf cart and a car. Once you hook your RV up to sewer, water and power, you aren't going to unhook it every day to drive your dog to the kennel. With the FW Kennel most guests either walked their dog over, or drove them in the Golf cart to the kennel.

Now for many guests, there will be no way to get their dog over to the new kennel. You'd have to have a car, and many people come to Disney without one.

As for the day user of the kennels, the new location is also inconvenient. When we took our dog to Seaworld last month we checked her in the Kennel which was right outside the park entrance. In the middle of the day it was easy to check on her, walk her, etc. If visiting her in the kennel meant leaving the Seaworld parking lot and driving several miles, the whole convenience of leaving her there would have been lost.

I'm actually going to go check out the opening tomorrow, but as of right now I don't see us utilizing it for two reasons, price and convenience.

ok, I'm a total liar...at least about not using the new location. After attending the grand opening this morning I decided to give it a chance and booked a reservation for Saturday/Sunday. I still think it's in an inconvenient place and some of the offerings are a little overboard, but I booked the indoor/outdoor suite for the night. It's going to cost about $40 which is what I would pay for 2 nights at our normal place, but I think it'll be a nice change of pace for our dog (and it gives us an excuse to spend the night near WDW).

I checked the prices too and they seem pretty high. My parents winter in Englewood and will be meeting us to cruise in February and need a place to board their replacement daughter while on the cruise. Although I know they would prefer boarding her in the WDW or Port Canaveral area just to have her closer, the prices will probably have them keep her back in Englewood.

We will see....convenience does win out sometimes!

I wont .... because I live in the UK obviously

However, if I had to i'd put my dog in one of their suites i'd be happy to.

But NO WAY if I had to put my cat in there - have you seen the glass cabinets for the cats!!! OMG - Tiny! My dogs goddies cabinet is bigger!

It funny it used to be people wouldn't go to Disney because they didn't want to leave the dog home now it we going to disney just to let the doggy try out the resort. Now what you going to do when the little one dosent want to leave the resort I guess it give a good reason to move to Disney.

Hi everyone just wanted to let everyone know about my local Best Friends (I worked for them for 2 yrs) and what to avoid at this best friends if it is anything like mine.

First off they do take really good care of your pets so there is no problem with any concern about your pet being miss treated.
I do recommend that you not buy any extras (no private playtimes, ice creams, treats, ect.) Your pet will most likely not get these. When I worked for them if we ran out or didn't have enough time we just didn't hand out or do these things, still charged the family and lied saying how much your pet loved it. :sad2:

As you may also guess the more fun and cute your pet is the more attention your pet will get so there will be no need to buy extra playtimes as your pet will get constant attention anyways.

Overall Best friends is a good kennel over others I have seen just don't waste your money on any of the extras.

I double checked on their website, and you have the option to get either a 2 level or 4 level cat condo. On their facebook page, you can see a pix with a cat in it, and a hole in the floor (and a ramp going down) for access to a second level. "Private loo" if you will! :thumbsup2

The cost for Indoor suite isn't that bad when I look at how much my vet charges for a much smaller enclosure but I can't see us ever using this new pet resort. I can't imagine driving 6.5-7 hours in a Dodge Charger with two kids and a Husky in the back. :lmao: That drive would be interesting to say the least. I absolutely love the pictures of the outside playground with the water play area.

Now what you going to do when the little one dosent want to leave the resort I guess it give a good reason to move to Disney.

Actually I'm only about 45 minutes away, and one of the reasons we moved to FL was to be near Disney...but that was more for me than our little ones

That great your lucky you get to go when ever you want and the little one won't miss you so much.

I looked at the pics Corey posted. The price for Cats are cheaper. The condo's for cats do look like they are science experiments. :guilty:

It's all I could think of. I don't think I will be putting my furry one in there. He gets so traumatised. It's better to just leave him home.
