I read a thread somewhere a couple of weeks ago that Pop was installing "beverage coolers" in the rooms. But today, DH saw a picture somewhere that someone posted of an actual mini fridge instead. We normally drag our mini fridge with us to save from having to rent one or the trouble of signing up for a swap. I'm hoping they are actual mini fridges and not beverage coolers, so that we can store things like milk. Plus, we hate having to pack our mini fridge, so we would love to not have to do that this year!

Also, I've read threads on and off about free wi-fi being available in the resorts, including the value resorts. I'm curious if anyone can confirm if this is the case or not.

The beverage coolers will keep already cold things cold, but if you bring a case of water out of your hot car and put them in there, it's going to take a long time to get that water cold. If you need to keep medication cold, ask the FD for a refrigerator as the coolers don't get cold enough for that.

All the value resorts should have wifi by the end of this month.

Disney is calling them that because they do not want people to assume that the coolers will go down to the same temperature that a refrigerator will and perhaps not get a refrigerator for medications. They use far less energy than the fridges do and will keep drinks cool just fine, but even the manufacturer says that they are not intended to get as cold as a fridge. The description will help manage expectations about what this item is and is not capable of doing.

They are installing mini fridges. Front page of wdwinfo gives the description.

Thank you so much for the quick replies! I guess we'll just have to call them directly and find out the details regarding the mini fridge/beverage cooler. We would like to freeze some water bottles to toss in a cooler and leave in our car to have a cool drink when we're on the way back to the resort after a long, hot day at the parks. If the beverage coolers won't freeze, then I guess we'll have to drag ours down. :sad2:

Just checked into Pop today and we have one of the mini fridges in our room, we are in Building 2. It is keeping beverages cold but is definitely NOT as cool as a refridge would be if you are trying to keep things really cold. DH adjusted the temp when we got here and our waters and beverages seem cold so far.

I am on the Wifi right now at Pop, it is easy to get online with it and seems to move pretty good as good as any hotel internet I have ever used.

They are ONLY refrigerators. They do not have a freezer compartment.

Thanks for the info!:)

The medical reason makes perfect sense as to why Disney is calling a Refrigerator a Beverage Cooler.:)

Is the Avanti Refrigerator model linked below the one that is being used? Thanks.:)

OK so I'm completely confused - are they fridges without freezers or are they BC that are only cold enough for sodas/ water?

We own a small fridge (no freezer) that we like the OP take down every trip. Fridge no freezer works for us - but something that is only cold enough for drinks doesn't - we need something that we can keep milk/ yogurt in - SO are the new "things" in the values cold enough for that or should we continue to bring our fridge on trips? Does anyone know?

If they are or like the ones in the above link, then it looks like they could keep diary products cold (that one is pictured with dairy items inside). However, it sounds like for us that we will need to drag our mini fridge with us so we can freeze water bottles. We're be there in August, when it's so incredibly hot and I know we're going to want our ice cold water waiting for us in the car.

We're also going in May, so we can give the "beverage coolers" a try and see just how well they work.

I am excited about the free wi-fi at Pop! Pop has always been our value "home" resort, so that's just one more reason to stay there!

Thank you so much for the live update!! Would you mind checking to see what brand/model the BC is? I'm sure others, like me :), would like to research stats online to see if they can work for our needs.

Have a GREAT trip!!

The one in our room last week was plenty cold enough for drinks/dairy. No freezer tho. We usually have a cooler in the trunk filled with ice so we can have a cold water when leaving the parks. I lugged my mini fridge to POP a couple years ago & thought never again, lol.
Can't say about the WiFi tho. When I'm at WDW I'm way too busy having fun than caring about WiFi.
