New "perk" rules...

Anyone notice this in the member clubhouse this month...

To take advantage of any Member Perks, you must present your Disney Vacation Club Member ID Card, and at times, a current "Key to the World" card imprinted with "DVC Member."

Weren't the old rules that you could show your DVC Member room key for most perks? Sounds like they may be stepping up enforcement of the "renter not eligible" rule.

Hi, Seguin! Actually I'm not sure that's a new rule, but maybe it'll be enforced more now, especially if DVC senses there are more renters than in the past. I know that I was asked a couple times in the last 2 years to show my DVC blue card in order to get certain perks. However, sometimesI wasn't asked. So the rule has been there for at least 2 years, but enforcement has been spotty.

The only times I can recall being asked for my blue member card was at the Swan/Dolphin restuarants (for the 20% discount) and at the Disney Stores (for the 10% discount). I usually carry it in my wallet just in case, though.

Best wishes -

Hi Harlingen!

While it's true this was probably always the "official" rule, it was poorly enforced. Maybe they have seen an increase in member rentals, or maybe (we can hope, although I don't feel it is "owed" to us) that we'll be getting more/better discounts/perks in the near future and they want to be better at enforcing the "not for renters" policy.

I was reading on another board that someone was denied a perk due to only having the room ID with them at the time just recently.::MickeyMo

The rules did say that guests of members are eligible for the discount. So it would be possible that a member could be staying in a 2 or 3 bedroom and some of their guests go separately to a restaurant. If they would be required to have the blue card, they couldn't use the discount.

I was wondering about that too, and just last January, we had guests with us, and the restaurant gave us the discount, but would not give it to our guests, even though we were dining together and staying together at OKW. I thought that looked like a policy change.

I do not think renters should get the discounts though. I think that is a missuse of the system.

I thought that was always the rule. As I recall (I'm almost sure) it was in our packet of info that you first get from DVC.

I'm a little confused, too - but I'm not in the mood to go DVC Document Diving ::lazy::. I think part of the problem is that there are different "perk" levels, or qualifications. Some benefits are extended to members & guests, others to members only - and then there's the "staying on points" qualifier.

I don't think the official rules or guidebook address these issues. The members website has always said:
you must present your Disney Vacation Club Member card or your Walt Disney World® Resort ID card with your "DVC Member" designation on it at the location.
dianeschlicht, all you had to do was have all included in one check. I can see them not doing it for separate checks. Still, I'm surprised and they should have given them the discount since they were staying in a points room as the guest of a member.

The newsletter also had a line about needing the actual member card -- they won't accept the Disney Visa with "DVC Member" as a substitute.

I agree this can be a problem since non-paying guests of members are entitled to the perks. Heck, a family will have to stick together if only one person actually has a member card.

I was hoping it meant they are enforcing the "pool hopping" rules! I had a long phone message from member services after a trip this past Easter. I had reported that people were pool hopping from their homes in the greater Orlando area! Time to check ID for pool users, make sure people are at least resort guests or DVC members hopping.

Can anyone list - in general terms - what kind of benefits that non-member guests staying with a member on points are entitled to?

As long as they are with the member, guests will benefit from any discounts offered to the member. Dining discounts will apply to all on the bill with the member, shopping discounts will apply to all on the bill with with the member.

Pool hopping will usually apply to anyone with "DVC Member" imprinted on their room id. (The DVC membersip card won't apply for pool hopping since this is for members staying on points.) The membership card may be required in addition to the room id.

Other discounts (tours, etc.) are often available only to DVC members and the DVC membership card may be required in addition or in place of the room id.

I recently became a member through the purchase of a resale.I was in the Disney system by the last week in August but have not received any member information or ID cards. I will be in Disney this upcoming week. Does this mean that I could be turned away from possible discounts that I'm clearly entitled to receive? Would having your member # along with your room key help? Can I pick up my DVC cards while in Disney?
Thanks for any information.
