I keep seeing on tv that the major airlines are going to ad fees for "peak tavel days" on all tickets. What if you already paid for your tickets, do they still charge you the new fee?

I think they already do this. It's usually more expensive to fly on the weekend than the middle of the week.

See this story, it will be part of the published fare. You will not be hit later. There's already a law that says you can't be charged added fees after you buy your ticket. Whatever rule was in place when you bought them applies.

This is such a non-story (I saw in USA Today on Monday). Airlines have been charging more for weekend (or otherwise peak travel times) for years. Read back through these boards - it has been mentioned many, many times.

I have no idea why the media is making it into a big deal.

I have seen the same reports and I think their overall fares will just go up to reflect the peak times you will be flying. Tues and Wed are usually good days to Travel, Weekends bad as far as fares since they are peak times, the 4 or 5 days before a holiday and after a holiday tend to be more expensive, I think it is just a word to the wise they are putting out there that fares will be going up even higher than they are now, I heard it mentioned all of summer is "peak" so you can not win.
One thing to remember with all the cutbacks most airlines are offering fewer flights so demand is up for the seats, ergo you are at the airlines mercy when it comes to what they charge.

To answer your question I do think you are safe if you already bought your tickets, I have mine already for November(bought the first day they were offered for sale) that being said I know our flights have gone up by over $100 round trip since I bought them in April.

To sell more newspapers/magazines, get higher ratings for television news, and/or increase ad views on websites.

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays are the least expensive days to fly. Fridays and Sundays are generally the most expensive.
