I can definitely get on board with the overbooking and lost/damaged bags. This one is a good thing as it requires more care especially with baggage. We try to exclusively fly west jet and have never had an issue with overbooking. I’m not sure how air canada is with that. The only airline we have experienced over booking with is united but each time it was a flight leaving the US.
Once we’ve had a bag damaged on a WestJet flight. Went to the service counter and they filled out a voucher to have us take it to a repair shop.
My only concern is with the compensation for delayed flights due to safety maintenence. No matter how rigirous checks and maintence are something could still go wrong and stuff breaks. I’m sure there will be pressure put on the pilots to get the plane off the ground. A west jet 737-800 has a guest capacity of 174. I’m sure the company doesn’t want to shell out 70k to 122k f a plane is delayed so will pressure to get the plane off the ground if the problem is more likely that not to be fine and can wait.
