I heard through the grapevine they are building a new resort and theme park in New York City on the West Side. It's going to be similar to the Magic Kingdom.

Where the heck would they put that thing? Really, where would they put it?
If so, they might be able to fit in something VERY small, very small. But New York does not have the same climate that the other parks have. We only have about 4 to 5 months of decent and/or warm weather.
I hope they don't do it.

Seems like this one is more joke than rumor.

Maybe they could put it over on the west side where they want to build the stadium for the Jets. I think Disney would probably generate more money than the Jets would.

Or they could use the closed landfill on Staten Island!! That's a pretty big chunk of property. I can just see the signs now "Welcome to Disney's Smelly Kingdom". They could even put another Richard Petty driving course over at the NASCAR track they're supposed to build on the Island.

You're absolutely right -- I can't believe this info has gotten out already!

:earsboy:

Of course you will have to park on Long Island and take a shuttle in :)

As a resident of NYC, I couldn't imagine that this would ever happen. There were rumors running amuck here that Disney was going to buy out all the property in Coney Island and build a resort complete with a theme park. There is indeed plenty of space if this were to happen, but the surrounding area is so blah, that I can't imagine Disney would ever agree to this. And it is so residential, I highly doubt they ever could do this since it would displace hundreds of thousands of residents.

One other rumor that had some merit is that Disney was going to build a deluxe resort in the Times Square area, to fit in with their DVC program. That makes the most sense since it was Disney that provided a great deal of funding to gentrify the area when they opened their own theater. I, for one, would support that only because as "Disnified" as Times Square has become, it is definitely nicer than what it once was. A number of my friends don't like the look or feel of the new Times Square because it doesn't have the character or feel it once had. My impression is that NYC definitely benefitted from the change because who really needs a section filled with drug dealers, hookers and porn shops?

They will probably put it in New Jersey, to stop everyone from coming to Disney World during Jersey Week!

For those not familiar with Stemikger's posts, he has a habit of putting out 'rumors' that are more jest than rumor. Take it in the spirit meant.

In jest it is taken. :flower1:

WDWHound - I was born and raised(minus 5 years out in CA) In Throggs Neck, a few miles from Co-op. My dad has pictures of himself at FreedomLand when he was about 5. I'm going to check out your link and send it over to him :flower:
Off topic, you've got to see Co-op City now! Remember where they had the Pathmark? Well, over the years they've been adding stores like JCPenny, a big movie theatre, Bed Bath & Beyond, Mens' Warehouse, and other big named stores like that. It's huge!

I heard this rumor is true...and Disney is going to name it Blizzard Beach (sorry, just thinking of you poor folks in NY and NJ right now getting hit hard) :earseek:

I don't think that's rumor...

Maybe it was on JimHillMedia.com? But they had plans all drawn up, but Eisner didn't give it the green light because at the time it was proposed, Times Square still was home to the hookers, druggies, and porn shops.

Search Jim Hill. I'm almost positive that's where I read it.

It's amazing what rumors get started at 3 a.m.!

Rumors continue that Eisner now regrets pulling the plug on Times Square, given the extent to which it has been gentrified. He'd probably like to make more money off the area, and DVC might be one way to do so. However, per-square-foot costs in Manhattan are very, very high. Would DVCers stay there if the points cost per day was, say, twice what it is at BCV?

1) The rumors are indeed true.
2) New York has a funhouse and themepark.
3) Except, no FastPass.
4) It is located at "1 United Nations Plz, New York, 10017".

yup, 2 feet of it. just shovel the driveway, and dug out three cars. I wish i was in wdw.:cloud9:

Us Chicago folk are pros at digging out cars. Glad to know others get to enjoy the experience as well. Make sure you pull out the lawn furniture to save your spot ;)
