New park based on CARS??????

Is it true that they are building a new park based on the movie Cars???? My friend told me this yesterday but I hasn't heard this!! True or just a rumor???

Yes, construction is well underway for Carsland in California Adventure. Due to open in 2012.

They're not building a whole new park, just adding a land to California Adventure. I seem to recall seeing some Google Map-type photos that showed where it was going to be within CA, but now I can't find those.

I was just looking at Andy Castro's Dateline Disneyland a few minutes ago. Here is the link to it. It has a lot of pictures on the new Cars land among other things.

It looks pretty cool. We were there last week and they had a lot of the Radiator Springs background up.

We just got back yesterday, and it is well under way. You could see the back from the line for Screamin'. I hope they plan on extending the wall between Screamin' and the new carsland further up so you can't see the back of those mountains or whatever it is they are building.

Yes - exactly! Thank you, Duchie, for stepping in to clarify that! The word "park" was the thing in the OP that needed to be addressed, as that is the most important word!

There's definitely not a whole new park based on Cars (if there were a whole park based on Cars, I would disown Disney!)....just a whole new land in DCA, or a new section of a park!

I think people are shocked that's all. It's like saying ... so japan is like being attacked by a carrotzilla? LOL I was shocked thinking cars? Then I was thinking California adventure? They are doing stuff with that place... FINALLY. Cars grossed crates of money and it only makes sense. Cars + kids = WIN! I loved MATER! KERCHOW KERCHOW. I also like the old retro hollywood thing. I don't know if you remember when disney did the whole poodle skirts and greaser thing. It was like flash back to something or something. LOVED IT!

Yeah, it's kind of like how A Bug's Life has its own area... it's not a full park, just a "land". Think of it as a section! Like Frontierland or Hollywood Backlot.

We took a few Greyline tours to other places of note around Anaheim and California whilst in Anaheim, and the bus driver said numerous times that it was "another park" and that he was certain "they would open the three parks into a one ticket park" as opposed to park hoppers. This guy was certainly not up with it because even I knew that wasn't the case (well, at the moment anyway) and I'm not even from California! ...he seemed to be a Disney hater as well...CarsLand looks amazing though even from the current scaffolding it looks to be a blast.
