New Palo menu

I just ate at Palo on the Wonder (1/25 to be specific) and both my bf and I ordered the beef tenderloin Palo - I got the gorgonzola and he got the red wine sauce. We also got the creamy gnocchi pasta to share.

Honestly, this new menu looks awful. I'm not a fan of tomato-based sauce at all. Looks like I'll no longer be going to Palo dinner - I'm glad my bf got to experience it once before the crappy menu change.

Eating at Palo in 2 weeks on the Magic, and I assume these changes are fleet-wide. I loved the Chianti Beef Ravioli and that's gone too. However, the two new pasta choices (Caramelle di vitello and Butternut Agnolotti) look really interesting.

I do think they are making the changes on all the ships, or at least the Magic as well, because our server Andre in Palo told us they were training on new menu options when we were there last month. He is a wonderful server; if you don't already have a favorite, ask for him. :)

I think i'm the only one who likes the new menu, but I really like tomato bases sauces. Although, I wish they weren't adding shrimp to the calamari dish. I'm not a fan of that.

I think there was only one shrimp in the calamari dish. It was still mostly all calamari. My DH said it was excellent.

they do indeed seem to be tweaking their recipes. I've eaten 5 times at Palo and have always loved the polenta. 2 weeks ago, it was just "meh". I personally did not find the dinner worth the upcharge for the first time.

I'm trying to convince DW of that. She loved the tenderloin with the gorgonzola sauce. As of right now, the only real reason she wants to go back is the dang chocolate souffle. I've always had a hard time finding something I like there. The same things never taste good to me from trip to trip. Plus with the ever marching increase in the upcharge....

Anyone have a better picture of menu? The CruiseBlog site picture is terrible

From what I can read i HATE the new menu.... Great now that we are Platinum our FREE meal will suck :)

THough I also missed a couple of the old menu items, our 2 dinners in Palo the 2nd week of January on the Dream (with the brand new menu just rolled out) were still excellent and I would most assuredly give everything every bit as high marks as we are accustomed to in Palo. DH entirely agreed. Maybe I'm dreaming but I would swear that our longtime server and the GM of Palo both told us that with advance notice they could make some of the requested dishes from the old menu. So for anyone sailing soon, perhaps if you stop in Palo the first day of your cruise and politely ask if you want something made for you off the old menu? Doesn't cost anything to ask. :flower3:

That's good to hear. Because if I can't have the gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce and the tenderloin with Gorgonzola, it just wouldn't be worth it for me. I don't actually care much for most Italian food, which is why I liked Palo ;). It wasn't your everyday Italian place. I don't care for tomato sauce at all, so I'll be stopping by next time to see what they can do. Thanks for the tip!

We enjoyed our Palo dinner (Jan 15, Wonder.) The lamb was *excellent.* As always, the chocolate shuffle was wonderful. We had Grand Marnier shuffle at one dinner rotation and it was very good, as well.

Palo is supposed to be Northern Italian food. And most northern Italian food is *not* tomato-sauce based, which is why I usually prefer it to southern Italian fare.

Maybe someone needs to give someone a lesson on Italian cuisine. You'd think their chefs would know this but it is probably not entirely their decision. I can see a lot of comment cards coming in asking why the Italian food doesn't have tomato-based sauce like some people have come to expect.

I'm guessing the change is largely due to the fact that tomato-based sauce is far cheaper to make than rich, creamy cheese sauces. :sad2:

Not only that, but gorgonzola, like most blue cheeses, does not appeal to most people in particular to the American palate.

The pizzas did not go anywhere. We had them yesterday (2/4) at brunch.
HUH! I had no idea! We usually don't do brunch so I guess why I didn't know. Last time we were on the Magic I swear we asked specifically about the pizza and our server said they were not serving them anymore and were not using the ovens any longer. I also didn't think the new ships had pizza ovens. (DH is obsessed with pizza ovens. Built one in our backyard)

Yes, brunch still has pizzas. But they used to be also available at dinner.
I remember the days that the pizza was available at dinner. Any idea how long ago that was? I'm guessing 5 years now.
