I joined in 1992 and at that time received a large teal and black book-like document holder that had the DVD logo and the phrase "Where the Magic Never Ends" embossed in gold on the front. Does DVC still provide this to new members? I also got a three ring binder a month or so later, but the "book" was definitely the nicer of the two.

Thanks.

We joined December 2003 and did not get that. We got a cardboard folder box thing, it has sections for all the documents but the weight of them has torn the flap which seals it.

Terrible description..sorry!

Thanks, Mandy. This is heavy, with a compartment inside with a lid that lifts up with a ribbon tab (I am not sure that sounds logical ;-) ). I had forgotten I had it, but was looking for my deed and came across this. Just wondered if they still provided this.

Hi--we joined in October 2003, and we also received the cardboard folder which tears easily. I don't know if this makes a difference, but we joined by mail, so maybe the reserve the nice stuff for people who buy while at the parks? Frankly, I think they probably just decided to give out cheaper stuff.

Now I am wondering when they stopped giving this. Hopefully, some who joined inbetween our times will reply.

Thanks.

Nope, we bought at SSR and got the cardboard filer thingy. There are four folders inside with different docs, vacation guide, planner, etc.

We did get the blue backpack to carry it in, though :goodvibes

Me, too. Mine's starting to fall apart from all the stuff I have in it.

Love my backpack though!

Now I am wondering why they stopped giving this. It is obviously pretty sturdy, since it is 13 years old and still like new. I wonder if it just one of those marketing ideas that had a very short life. They gave us the carry-on type bag then, too, but this was in addition to that.

We joined late June 1992 and received a 3 ring binder, a canvas beach bag with the DVC logo and a family photo (we look like we are in a hot air ballon flying over OKW). We did not receive the teal and black book like document holder that you described.

Now, this is strange. We joined in late July, 1992 and got the book then. They then sent the three ring binder with some copies of documents we did not get at signing. Maybe it was just a short time perk? If I can get my DS to help, I will take a picture of it.

as i recall, in may of 94 we toured the sales bldg at conch flats now known as old key west, there was a room as part of the tour that had this over sized story book that opened while we were standing in that room, that book looked like the document container that we also have, i believe you are writing about, also the sales video at that time opened with that same book opening, then in july of 96 we bought our first add on and all the documents were in the smaller folder style that seems to have been used since, having design changes now and then, maybe someone else can help narrow down the date, by the way, my original document "book" has a dvc logo design with three mountians on it, does anyone know why it was changed to two and why?

Grumpy, that "book" sounds just like mine. Did the change from three mountains to two have anything to do with the decision not to go ahead with the DVC property in California? I am glad to have some confirmation on the time period the document holder was part of the closing. After you mentioned it, I remembered the "book" being part of the introductory video we were shown, too. Thanks so much for the help on my question.

I have to bet that the "really nice binder book" cost a heckuva lot more than the "cheap cardboard thing with the flap" that we got in 2003.....

We joined in June 2002, were on property when we bought BCV, and all we got was a very thin cardboard "file box" (lack of better words) that holds all the documents. It is probably about 1 to 1 1/2" thick. I try not to open it too many times for fear that it will fall apart. I just store the papers I am actively working on somewhere else. We did get a DVC backpack with Mickey's hand as the ID tag. Guess the money went into that gift versus a better holder for documents. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

In 1997 we bought OJW at the BW sales center and got a sturdy canvas type bag with zipper etc. that had a blue plastic binder that says Disney Vacation Club member document portfolio on it along with several other items such as the big binder with room layouts etc. There was a CM at the BW lobby kiosk who saw us walking by just after we had signed the papers and gave us our first "Welcome Home" when she saw the bag. We got the beach bag in the mail at a later date and then the back pack when we purchased BCV but don't remember what type of thing the BCV info came in. Somehow the SSR purchase just didn't match up with the cardboard file folder thingy.
