My dh is headed to NO for a seminar (I am so jealous) and I am looking for some restaurants for him. He will be staying at
Le Pavillion I think its in the Gardendistict?

Thanks

Laura

Your husband is very lucky! There are some awesome restaurants here!!! His hotel is actually in the CBD (Central Business Disctrict, what we call downtown!). I've given you a couple of links to look at. I used to like the cox.net link, but they have changed it a little bit, so it is not as user friendly as before.

The digital city link allows you to input an area (you/he wants to look in the French Quarter or Uptown/Garden District for places realtively close to the hotel. If you or your husband are looking for some place specific, PM me and I can help. I have a few definite favorites that I would recommend.

How I miss my New Orleans! I miss living in the french quarter :(

Anyhow, remember this place... if he has the $$$, tell him to stop by NOLA... It's a resteraunt owned by Emerill Lagasse. I've eaten there before and it was quite good, but it IS pricey! Also, for the best burgers in the world, lead him to Port of Call. It's on the edge of the french quarter (literally) and it is killer for burgers!

I'm so glad you posted this. I am going down with a group of friends this fall(it's a "no kids or DH's" trip;) ), and we have been trying to figure out the "don't miss" places. We are staying at the Cotton Exchange.

Pasquale Manale's (not sure if that's the right spelling) is casual and has awesome barbequed shrimp!

I'll second Nola's

And don't forget to have a beignet (sp?) at Cafe Du Monde.

Some other restaurants:

Pat O' Brian's - have a Hurricane for me
The Red Fish Grill
Emeril's (he has three resturants in New Orleans)
Mister B's Bistro

Mister B's and the Red Fish are both owned by Brennan's.

Commander's Palace in the garden district is very recommended. This is one where the locals go to along with tourists. Galatoire's in the French Quarter is good too but didn't take reservations the last time I heard. Mike Anderson's is a good place for seafood. There's a Margaritaville in the French Market if he likes such places. And definitely stop for beignets at Cafe du Monde. This is a must-do! :)

I love New Orleans and it's been way too long since we went!

Cafe du Monde - grab a beignet and cafe au lait for bfast!

Pat O'Briens - great food and even better drinks... make sure to get a hurricane and keep the glass - you can order hurricane mix online! it's a stocking stuffer for us every xmas!

Mulates!!! Love this place! After 7 or 8 they have live music (but they'll also charge an extra 10% to your bill for 'entertainment tax')

Wow, thanks for all the reccomendations. Now I am really sorry that I'm not going:( I've already made reservations for NOLA and trying to find out if I can for Commanders Palace.

Where is Cafe du monde?

Any good italian restaurants?

Also, I thought I'd book an airboat ride for him, any thoughts?

The only time I was in New orleans I was drunk and 20!! Yes its been awile.

I'll second the Commander's Palace suggestion! The Turtle Soup is great, and the Bread Pudding is to die for!

ACME Oyster House! It is the BEST place! We went there last year and were not disappointed. Huge po-boys, filled with oysters and shrimp. There is usually a line out the door but the line moves fast and it's worth the wait. YUM!

Definitely Acme Osyter, esp if he love oyster. Po boy is good there too. Very casual, and good for single business traveler.

Gumbo Shop has THE BEST gumbo in the world. I asked my DH to bring a tub home last time he was there for business.

Commander's Palace is good too, but $$$. Probably better for business dinner or lunch.

I wasn't that impressed with Emril's restaurant. Maybe I had a bad night. Everything was very salty and the wait is way too long (with ressie).

Acutally in NO, you just can't go wrong, even at McDonald's.

Cafe Du Monde is on Decatur... You can't miss it! It's the street in front of the Mississippi River with the trolleys running behind it. Also get him to get you some chocolate & regular pralines at Aunt Sally's Praline shop; which is right next door! BTW, here's a pic of the Cafe!

The Court of Two Sisters is great. You've gotta try the Bananas Foster, flambed tableside!! They also have a jazz brunch.

He'd have to travel quite a distance (an hour or so) to take an air boat ride. He can hop a mule drawn trolley in the Quarter for a personalized tour....or the latest craze-a "Ghost Tour" of the Quarter at night.

Pat O'Brien's is famous for Hurricane drinks, but I'd skip the food there.

House of Blues is really good for lower priced food-on Decateur ,near Canal Street. Napoleon House on Chartres has Operatic Music,an outdoor courtyard and great Muffaltos(Which is a special N.O. Italian sandwhich)

Really, there are SO many fabulous restaurants in the French Quarter, just a short walk from each other.:)

Adding my raves for The Acme and Court of Two Sisters.

Cafe Du Monde is great! We enjoyed going there early and having cafe' au lait and beignets and watching the city wake up.

I'm looking forward to getting back to New Orleans - what a great place!

I'd like to put another vote in for House Of Blues and NOLA. DH and I dined at both on our anniversary. We did NOLA for lunch and spent $45 after tip out. We did HOB for dinner and did $36 after tip out. Both had wonderful atmospheres and really great food.
