DHs friend told him to hold off buying the kids the Nintendo Wii system for Christmas as a new Nintendo Wii system will be coming out early 2010?

To say the least, I am completely out of the loop on all things electronic for kids. I have googled a bit but can't find any info. on a new system coming out in early 2010.

I would appreciate any info. anyone may have on this since I really don't want to go out next month and spend several hundred dollars on the current Wii (including games and controllers) and then find out I should have waited a few more months.

Thank you so much for any much needed advice.:goodvibes

There's always rumors about a new Wii, but Nintendo has never confirmed anything. In 2008 there was a rumor of a new one in 2009. In 2009 there's a rumor of a new one in 2010. I'm sure in 2010 there will be rumors of a new Wii for 2011.

Nothing's impossible. Nintendo's really been pushing hardware profits and units.

There are still gamecube games being pushed out for the Wii, though. Even if they make a new console, Nintendo's big on backwards compatability and there would likely be Wii games for a long while.

Wii HD may arrive mid-2010.

If Nintendo released a new console within a couple of months of Christmas 2009 many recent purchasers would revolt.

We have all three consoles, and I have to admit that the Wii is used the least. Of course, it all depends on the ages of your children, but personally I'd buy a Xbox 360 elite. Its approximately the same price as a Wii ($299) and is a much better machine. There are a ton of games, including a lot of kids ones.

Just my 2 cents.
