New Netflix pricing!

That's weird, I don't have anything about it changing, just what I quoted before...:confused3

I'm gonna keep it at 1 DVD regardless. I mostly watch streaming but there are enough DVD only options I want to see.

I got the same message as you. I've been thinking about moving from 2 discs down to 1, and that's basically what it told me too.

thanks to the PP who told me where to look :) this is what my "change plan" page says:

"You are currently on the 3 DVDs out at-a-time (Unlimited) for $16.99 plan which is no longer offered. If you select a new plan, you will no longer be able to return to this plan."

i checked my terms and conditions, and it says my price is going up to $19.99 after january 2, 2011. so i'll be downgrading.

that's annoying. And are they going to be contacting customers to let them know or are we going to be just seeing the change on our bill? If I hadn't read it here I wouldn't have gone to my account to look at anything changing. I have been thinking of stopping Netflix anyways as I don't think we are really taking full advantage of it. Plus it seems like an unnecessary expense right now. I have been a member since 2004 and even though it is only a dollar more I think that might be too much for us.

I just got an email from Netflix about the price change. I have the 3 DVD BluRay plan and it will go from $20.99 to 23.99/mo in Jan.

I totally understand why they are making a "streaming Only" plan available, but unless they greatly increase the availability of movies, I don't think they'll have too many takers when for $2 more a month you can get new releases. Now if they could just get rid of the $2 blu-ray surcharge, I'd be happy.

We tried Netflix with mailed DVDs in the past and hated it. At least half of the DVDs we got were unplayable, and we ended up at Blockbuster for something to watch that night. I have tried the streaming on my iPad and liked it, so we may give the streamign only plan a try. -- Suzanne

We're on the one at a time(unlimited) + streaming and while I's rather pay nine, ten is totally acceptable. We get a lot of value out of our basic membership. I think they would really have to beef up the streaming catalog for us to drop the disc aspect.

You took the words right out of my mouth!:thumbsup2

We enjoy Netflix streaming so much and in over 1 year we have only had problems with 1 disc (out of more than 100).

I like how I have it with one dvd. I am also getting a roku box and get hulu plus. Between the two I am still not paying cable prices. So its a great deal for me.

I just checked my account and it says:

The price of your 1 DVD out at-a-time (Unlimited) plan will change to $9.99 (plus any applicable tax) a month starting with your next billing period on or after Jan 02, 2011.

So I'm guessing that current members are NOT grandfathered.

Now to decide whether or not to cancel. We really don't use it very much.

So glad I just canceled. We started using redbox and like it so much better.

i have 2 dvds on my tv that have been here since July. Maybe it's timefor me to just cancel.

Wow. I just joined YESTERDAY and there was nothing in my sign-up telling me about the pending change. I mostly signed up for streaming on my Roku (which I also just hooked up yesterday). But I do like the single DVD option too since there isn't alot available on the streaming (that I want to see). I hope they do increase the streaming options.

I don't mind the 19.99 a month, starting in Jan-I got an email today informing me of the change, so check your emails in the next couple of days.

It saves me gas and late fees since I have a serious issue about getting videos back on time to the video store.

just got this email...

We have the 3 at a time plan....

We want to let you know about two important changes to the Netflix service.

1. The price of your current plan is changing from $16.99 a month to $19.99 a month. This new price will be effective with your next billing statement on or after January 2, 2011, and will be referenced in your Membership Details. With your current plan you can both instantly watch unlimited TV episodes and movies on your computer or TV and receive unlimited DVDs by mail.

2. We now also offer a new $7.99 a month plan which lets you instantly watch unlimited TV episodes and movies on your computer or TV. This plan does not include any DVDs. All the titles you can watch instantly on your current plan are also available on this new plan, and as a reminder, not all titles on DVD are available to watch instantly. This new plan is available immediately – if you'd like to switch to this new plan at any time, simply visit Your Account.

Why the changes? Our selection of TV episodes and movies available to stream has grown dramatically, and as a result most members want us to deliver unlimited movies and TV episodes two ways: streaming instantly over the internet plus DVDs by mail. The price change will allow us to continue to offer the popular plan choice of unlimited TV episodes and movies streaming instantly along with unlimited DVDs. The new plan, which does not include DVDs, is a great option for the increasing number of members who only want to watch instantly. The $7.99 a month price reflects no DVD shipping costs on this plan.

We hope you're enjoying great TV shows and movies from Netflix, and that you'll continue to enjoy Netflix on whichever plan you choose. We realize you have lots of home entertainment options, and we thank you for your business. As always, if you have any questions, please call us at 1-800-715-2146.

Yep, we got the same e-mail too, and also had the 3 DVDs out for $16.99. I just switched us to the 2 DVDs out w/streaming for $14.99 per month.

My new billing cycle starts tomorrow, and they just sent me the e-mail today! Talk about close timing, glad I had time to change our plan.

we are on the 3dvds at a time plan for $16.99. I think that $19.99 is still a good value for us (we average 6-8 DVDs a week, plus streaming, DH watches a LOT of movies). I'd rather pay $16.99 but can't complain much about the increase.

Yes, I am with you still a great deal....and I think they reduced the fee a couple of years ago. This is the first time it ever went up!

I just got the email tonight. After I go and say something about how dare they not tell us about this change :lmao: I don't know. I still might just cancel. I still have a DVD that has been sitting here since last week. Haven't had the time to watch it. Might just start getting them from the library instead. No charge there.

Got this e-mail as well. :sad1:I have the Blu-Ray option so I scaled back from 3 DVDs out to 2. This way I can get 1 release for me and one for DD11. DD and I use the streaming a lot so we definitely get our money's worth that way.

I have been thinking about scaling back to one DVD though. Not because of the price increase but because I stream now a lot of TV shows so I would only really need the DVD for most movies. I have run into a few TV shows that are not on the stream though and I hate the getting one DVD of TV shows...

Ugh what to do!

I get this message......

Your plan is no longer offered
You are currently on the 1 DVD out at-a-time (Unlimited) for $8.99 plan which is no longer offered. If you select a new plan, you will no longer be able to return to this plan.

Copied straight from the netflix site in my account.
