New nemo ride

Is it coincindence that the three places you could arguably get a view of the lagoon (Mattehorn, Autopia and the monorail) are currently closed as Nemo gets ready to open?

And it' supposed to open sometime in early-mid '07, yes.

Partly coincidence. First, the submarine ride has been down for six years, and Nemo has been under construction for at least a year, with another 8 months to go. The chances that something else would be down at the same time is pretty high, since the project is of such long duration.

Monorail has to have the TomorrowLand station rebuilt because it is co-located with Nemo and needed to be changed to accomodate the Nemo. They are taking this opportunity to rebuild some of the monorail cars.

Matterhorn being down is pure coincidence, as it has been up pretty much thru the whole 50th anniversary and it needs refurb work.

I believe Autopia is/was down for a short time because of something related to Nemo - changing the store there, or ride exit or something.

Nope, right now they are hoping for July 1.

It was originally spring 07. Now it is looking to be Summer 07. Of course this is all guesses. And I am really bummed because we are going in May 07 for Magic Music Days and I was really hoping to get to see it then.

When are magic Music Days?
I was hoping for may also!

AP holders were fanatical with how quickly they visited the park to see Pirates as it reopened in June with only a few days remaining for the SoCal passholders to ride it before the summer blockout dates hit. Two hour lines appeared for a ride that easily does 2500+ people per hour.

Nemo will only allow about 1250 people per hour. Disney will not open the ride in June thus having lines of over 4-5 hours resulting in many people being disappointed. Simply waiting until July removes many of the visitors that would overcrowd this ride.

One thing I could see is a soft opening in June by reservation only for AP holders(this was done for the Pooh ride). This would allow them to control the crowds while at the same time satisfy many AP holders.

ok, let me open this can of worms.

At WDW, there is usually a 1 - 4 month time frame of "pre-opening" for new attractions. I know when I went in July 2003, Spaceship Mars was in pre-opening, with the official opening in October 2003.

Do they do the same thing at DL??

Its whats called a "soft opening", and yes, DL does it as well. Its not usually months before though- usually more like 2-3 weeks. It gives the CM's a change to train on the ride, and time to work out some of the "bugs" in a ride.

^That would be a HORRIBLE idea. Do you know how fast the FPs would run out by? There would be SOOOOO many people complaining to Disney about how they couldn't ride the ride.

Yes, often they do and it is called a "soft opening". It depends on how special they want to make it as well as schedule. For the POTC re-opening earlier this year they did not do soft openings in order to sync the ride re-opening with the movie premiere. For Space Mtn re-opening in 2005 they did do soft openings for several weeks. Sometimes they special preview openings for CM or AP holders, as SoCalKDG alluded to. It looks like Nemo will be very tight in scheduling, and they will be pushing to get it open this summer. So they may not have time to do soft openings even if they wanted to. On the other hand, unlike POTC, the ride has been down for like 8 years and has been signficantly redesigned. Hence they will have no one (or almost no one) with previous experience on that ride. Hence training CMs will have to happen at some point, which really requires a soft opening of some sort.

Better to control the line than to have a 4 hour wait time... you could pass out more FP so the line would be limited to like 2-3 hours... so just hand out more fast passes...
