What do you think?

Personally I don't buy the racist talk and I think it's a good idea for the NBA to clean up it's image.

But at the same time I'll lose a lot of respect for them if they continue to keep using hip-hop to sell the league on a daily basis.

I can understand cutting ties with something that by in large it getting pretty ugly, but to only have the dress code and otherwise keep the same tune, makes no sense and they should be taken to task.

Players will be expected to wear business casual attire whenever they participate in team or league activities, including arriving at games, leaving games, conducting interviews and making promotional or other appearances.

What were they wearing before? PJ's?

All this should be is a pair of pants and a polo? How hard can that be?

Actually it's more formal that that. Mostly the problem isn't what they are supposed to wear, but what they are NOT allowed to wear.

Personally. I like it. I've never been into dress codes and the like, but these guys are really idolized by alot of at-risk kids - I think dressing like professionals can only be a good thing.

I'm truly impressed with the fact that many of the guys interviewed were totally OK with this. But the moron who said it was "********" needs a good, swift kick in the butt, and then perhaps, a good dictionary.

I think its a great idea. The NBA needs to clean up its image.

I used to travel to Calgary, Alberta a lot in the early 90's and on one occasion I saw a group of guys standing in the lobby and all were wearing suits and looked great. They were all in their twenties and I asked someone who worked at the hotel what was going on. He said that they were the Minnesota North Stars ( now in Dallas) Hockey Team getting ready to leave.
They looked great and I thought I hope all professional teams look that good when they travel. It set a really good example.

Yes, years ago in Cleveland the Nuggets were in town. We were attending a function at a hotel, and all these well dressed men came in and they were HUGE!

My DH wound up with one nugget player in the elevator, and he said for them to do well and welcome to Cleveland. .

This was years ago, maybe almost 10 years ago. I love when players show how well they represent thier team.

I work at a high school. Every Friday, regardless if they are playing or NOT, all football players are in nice clothes on game day. You can tell its Friday, when all these students are in suits or even collared shirts with ties. The coach is strict, they aren't allowed sneakers either!

Even on certain days, the ROTC students are in dress uniforms. Today all the ROTC students were in full dress.

I think it's a good idea too. I mean why not?? A lot of companies have dress codes or even uniforms and grooming codes. And wouldn't you have to say the players are at work? As far as going to and from the games, again I say it's a good idea to look professional while representing your company.

I think it's a great idea. I believe it can only be positive all the way around! :flower:

Ok Flame away but the Suits and proper dress is great When not in team Unies. The head phone yes because it Gives the the right to be rude and ignore people.
But the hats and GUADY jewelry is where I part ways .Win something (div.playoff ,title )and the first thing they do is throw a hat on your head to advertise this .Guady have you ever seen the champ. rings what they can't wear them anymore after winning them .Thats all for me on this.

Darn - I was hoping that they were going back to those cute little tight shorts they used to wear instead of those baggy long things they wear now.

It was much more fun to watch them back then.

Kudos to Lebron James:

"No it's not a big deal, not to me. Sometimes you feel lazy and you don't feel like putting some clothes on, but this is a job. We are going to have fun, but this is a job and we should look like we're going to work, that's the way they feel."
-- Cavs swingman LeBron James, quoted in the Oct. 19 Cleveland Plain Dealer

Yep! My Ds 11 is on a hockey team...his coach only requires them to wear the team warmup suit with a polo shirt.......many of the teams as they get older require shirts and tie...

MY DS met Martin Broudeur after a game and Broudeur was wearing a dress shirt and tie....

I like a dress code ..it is great team buildng and they look professional...
Hmmm isn't the NBA a "professional " sport???

Must resist the urge .............................................................

I will only say this...I come from the culture that many of the NBA players do, and I can see why they dressed the way they did.

The league sure didn't mind making money off selling there players, but now that they have there agreement and the fans they need to make a change?????

They are going to be losing major fan points. Most of you may disagree, but if you lived the way I or many of the players have when growing up then you can see how and why they dressed the way they do.

Hell the all-star game was in denver here this past year...the funnest time ever, but you didn't see any country parties, or rock bands playing at the festivities. How funny the NBA had no problems making money off of that before, but now it's a problem. Back to a second rate sport in less than 2 years watch.

I don't want any arguements or anything, but unitl you know how they grew up and what they stand for you can't understand why they do what they do.

Jeans and a polo no problems with that, even suit and tie...still I have no probs with that either....but NO CHAINS OR JEWELRY????

So to represent a company/team/league you have to all dress the same and act the same???? If that was the case I would never have a job.

I work in a "business casual" enviorment but I also have tattoo's, piercings (yes 3 of them) in my lip, listen to hard rap music...and you know what I GET MY JOB DONE. The way you do your work is what reprsents you, not the way you look, act dress, etc....

close minded people are the only ones who judge off of that!!!!!!!

My flame suit is on ;)

That show was to supposedly showcase "Denver" which was laughable in and of itself. I went to just about all the festivities, and I am sorry but I think the BIG & RICH fans were out numbered by just a few at every party, autograph show, walking around town, etc...

BTW that was the funnest 4 days in a long time!

Definitely no flames from me...I agree 100%. This rule smacks of old men making rules for a new generation that they do not/refuse to understand...shades of Elvis on the Ed Sullivan show where they censored any movement below his waist in fear that kids would run wild in the streets at the sight.

Don't quite understand this. I thought the major draw to a team was the way they played, not the way they looked off court.

I'm confused. You say wouldn't have a job if you had to dress like a company wanted but you get your job done dressed the way you stated.

Couldn't you do your job dressed a little more conservatively?

Are you saying that the players are going to now stink because they can't wear their bling while on company time?
